Can't say I'm fan of this design. It's trying to take it a bit too far into the "mobile home" territory Aurora was never meant to be. There's too much walking space and too much stuff packed inside for no reason. It's suppose to be a small, cheap ship without many luxuries rather than just another vehicle with a spacious interior.
I'm also not a fan of the new cockpit as the additional screens make it too crowded to me. I feel like the current screen setup is pretty great and it's one of the things that shouldn't be touched with the rework.
I'm also not sure why he mentioned the cargo grid considering it already works with standard containers.
The fans are take it or leave it for me. They might not be realistic but they're unique and considering that CIG doesn't really care about realism anyway I think they could stay - just make them functional.
It's not all bad. He kept to the original dimensions which I hope CIG also sticks with (as much as possible anyway). I agree that one of the entrances should be swapped into racks/locker/whatever fits there but things like component access should be outside, with fuses accessible somewhere around the bed entrance or on the same side as the locker/racks.
At least he didn't try to push for the old fan idea of expanding the wings during flight - a brick is a brick so leave it like that, please!
Thanks for posting! I hope I didn't come off too confrontational or critical on this - it's just I really like the simple and "budget" design of Aurora and I hope it won't be butchered with the rework. Concepts like this, which make it into more than it was originally designed to, just make me think of all the "fan makes better" ideas that tend to turn a thing into "super improved thing 2.0" without considerations for the original intentions (he did keep some of them at least).
I'm both hopeful and anxious about the official rework to be honest. I hope they don't go too crazy with it.
Yeah, I definitely agree with you on a lot of points, I just figured it was a good video to at least bring up the subject.
I do like the fans as well. I figure CIG could just wave their hands and say that the aurora spits out some quantum fuel exhaust through them providing thrust even on planets with a thin atmosphere.
And, no worries, you didn't come off as too critical/confrontational. All great points.
Oh totally, it's definitely an interesting video. It was worth a watch even despite (or maybe because) it presents a very different perspective to what I'm hoping for with this ship.
