:: spoiler Tap for spoiler He dies from tuberculosis contracted earlier in the game. :::

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 65 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Maybe some spoiler markup would be cool.

[–] ExplosiveLynx@lemmy.world 31 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bro you are reading a post asking about what happens in the game. Of course it's a spoiler.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I thought it was some kind of game mechanic or something else that they didn't understand. I didn't think it would be this spoiled. 🤷‍♂️

[–] Stache_@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Darth Vader is Luke’s father

oh and Snape kills Dumbledore

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

😐 What are we doing here right now, friend?

[–] Stache_@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

The game came out in 2018, I think a reasonable amount of time has passed to not have to worry about spoiling things. I guess I could’ve just said that rather than make a rude/sarcastic comment, sorry about that

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No worries.

I kind of disagree though. There's always someone who isn't in the loop and being cautious shouldn't take much effort. Meh. Maybe I'm overly empathic.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I fully agree. Like I am currently watching one piece for the first time, and the amount of people that are like "bro it's been known for years you should have found out by now" is unreal. Like no shit its been out for years, that doesn't mean I watched it release day.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Same with my friends. They're like "DID EVERYONE SEE [recent movie] YET" and they start yapping. Like is it really that hard to break out into a new chat to talk about a new topic that not everyone wants? When I see the movie I can join up. F—'s sake.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That depends on the context, though. If it's friends that know you're watching then, yeah, they're just being dicks. However, if you're going into One Piece fan forums, expecting them to not openly talk about stuff that came out twenty years ago is a bit unreasonable.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I don't find that unreasonable at all in my opinion. Most wiki's even acknowledge this by having a boiler plate saying "this page contains spoilers read at your own risk". Dropping spoilers about any type of story is taboo even on fan forums regardless of how long its been since release. The expected place to talk about them is in private or under an area that is clearly marked plot spoilers (or at minimum a post with a spoiler tag that makes the text not readable).

Even if it wasn't the standard, at the very least its common human decency. If you enjoyed something wouldn't you want everyone else to enjoy it as well? Dropping spoilers of any kind in a public page without proper precautions is just being a dick.(note I do feel that the person in this case at least tried, it just didn't work well cause most would have to see it in order to read the comments under them, but an attempt was made so IMO they do not fall under this category)

Time since release has never made sense as a valid excuse for me. So we are just going to magically think that everyone knew it was released and had the ability to watch it sooner? Hell some don't even have access to the media to watch it sooner, either due to age or just lack of accessibility

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Just get over yourself. The world does not exist to cater to your every whim, nor is it anyone's job other than your parents to shield you from minor disappointment. People are going to talk about media and it is the height of arrogance to expect them to be silent just so your potential enjoyment of it isn't slightly lessened.

BTW, Rosebud was his sled.

[–] Pika@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I wasn't attacking you in that message but, I think you should calm down some, practice what you preach. The world doesn't revolve around you either, we are all just trying to enjoy it the best we can.

Adding a simple "spoiler alert" is not that big of an ask. It's not like its a request not to talk about it or not discuss it. It's a request to properly label said spoilers to not ruin it for others.

The mental gymnastics behind that is insane to me. Are you saying that a One Piece fan shouldn't go on one piece forums period until they fully finish the show? That's insane my guy. Just label content if its in an area that potentially hasen't seen that content, that way everyone who hasen't seen it can enjoy it as well.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Should have stopped on your first paragraph.

[–] Tuuktuuk@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I usually buy my computers used when they are dirt cheap. That means, I typically come about 10 years after everyone else regarding new games. It works just fine, except for some unfriendly people who like to spread spoilers. Also, especially with Bethesda's games, by the 10-year-mark, typically already over 70 % of the game's bugs have been fixed, which is nice!

(My current computer is kind of a powerhouse, though! It can run both Skyrim and Fallout 3/NV with full graphic settings. Of course not the remastered editions, but it's still awesome getting to play those with my own computer now! Fallout:NV I did play almost completely through on a computer that I was able to regularly use elsewhere)

[–] Tuuktuuk@sopuli.xyz 0 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I haven't really been super interested in watching the HP films, but my children might eventually be and maybe I'll watch the movies with them some day in the future? For this reason, I've taken care at least to not know who kills him. This came kind of out of the blue here.

But now I know. Thanks?

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

To be fair, you find out about half way into the game.

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

So it's literally a pivotal plot point

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Haven't played it yet though.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

SpoilerNot hard to do. Supported by most clients.

[–] kernelle@0d.gs 4 points 2 weeks ago

Can't believe how many people are defending this obvious misuse of the spoiler tag lmao

[–] moosetwin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

I was about to play that game your spoiler warning doesn't work if you can see the text while reading the warning

I finally get a computer that can run it and I get the ending spoiled immediately, thanks god

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

The good news is, this isn't much of a spoiler. The game shows this part coming from miles away. You learn about the disease probably like 3/4ths through the game. It's part of the ending, but it isn't what makes the story good.

[–] militaryintelligence@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Me too. I have a wife and kids, and a 50 hour a week job. Been plugging away sporadically for a year. It's not the spoiler that bothers me, it's the "it's a blah blah year old game why haven't you finished it yet etc etc"

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

I've played it, but yeah, 7 years isn't that long. If it were like 20 then yeah, people probably have already played it or weren't going to —though still, there will be some new people, either younger people or curious people, so not an excuse to spoil it. 7 is still recent enough that people are still going to be new to the game.

[–] BrundleFly2077@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Goddamn it dude. Not everyone has played the thing. This is just bad form.

[–] Marafon@sh.itjust.works 37 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Lmfao it's been almost 7 years

[–] Graphy@lemmy.world 50 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Not only that, but to reach this point in the post, you would’ve read the meme that heavily implies something bad happens. If that didn’t deter you from continuing, you read the above comment that was asking for someone to further explain the meme.

If you still needed a spoiler tag after all that then what are we doing here people

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Spoiler rules remain valid for 1 generation

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

When Team Fortress 2 Episode 1 releases

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

A couple years back when I switched to Linux

[–] militaryintelligence@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't have the money to buy everything when it comes out, let alone the time. I caught rdr2 on sale and have been plugging away. It's not the spoilers, it's smug people like you.

[–] Marafon@sh.itjust.works -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Who said I bought it? Where there's a will there's a way, man. You do you.

[–] militaryintelligence@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago

Thanks man, I feel better

[–] AstralPath@lemmy.ca -3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Bad form indeed. Ruined it for me.

[–] militaryintelligence@lemmy.world -4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Me too. Smug pricks, some people actually touch grass.

[–] AstralPath@lemmy.ca -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I love the hive mind coming out of the wood work to downvote comments just because someone else has. I've noticed that often here. It was especially bad on Reddit. They see a zero or a negative one and have to put their unreasoned stamp on it too.

I bought the game a couple months ago and have put maybe 6 hrs into it so far so yeah, having someone spoil a part of the plot just because the game has been out for a while is fucking shitty.

[–] militaryintelligence@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I just down voted you after someone. Must be the hive mind.

[–] Tuuktuuk@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You can make a proper spoiler message this way:

Some text here, whatever. Click here.
The actual spoiler content here
It won't be visible until you click the spoiler thing open.

And this is what it will look like:

Some text here, whatever. Click here.
The actual spoiler content here
It won't be visible until you click the spoiler thing open.

Could you be so kind and edit your message, making the spoiler look that way?

Thank you for being awesome! ❤️

Mistakes happen. The important thing is to learn from them, and you clearly know how to do that. Cool!

Thanks for the massive up votes, as well. Been plugging away on my free time. One of the most story-driven games of the decade. Thanks guys. I knew he died at the end, but not the cause.
