Agreed re body cams, except maybe how "public" the footage is. Thinking here about the privacy of the subjects being recorded.

Maybe sent to a watchdog org which can accept requests if people don't want details of themselves or their lives freely available.

Opens up the avenue for intimidation ofc, so kid gloves

Hope they get what they're after. I don't think anyone should be delivering on weekends unless they're getting ridiculously well compensated.

Don't let them watch Severance. They'll get ideas

I maintain that shooting a baby is worse

I'm so disenchanted with policing that I'm not sure it can be rehabilitated without heavy heavy changes, but you remind me of how I felt signing up for police college as a young guy. I was pretty religious too at the time, and going into policing felt like the ultimate service to the community.

Anyway, a few ride-alongs cured me of that notion.

Fair. I mean same, it's not for everyone.

What kind of shape are your feet in tho?

Photographer seems like a good one. I've a friend who works four days a week, and occasionally fills in the extra day or weekend with a quick professional photo shoot.

Edits in the evenings while rewatching movies.

It's pretty chill. That one day off actually earned them more than if they worked five days a week, even if they only work it once in a while.

Why /s? I feel like this is the perfect example if you can get away with only doing it part time. I have an aunt who does foot stuff on there and seems to do pretty well

I'm the opposite. I wad told sugar was poison, so I avoided it as a kid. But now as an adult I love getting a sugary pop or whatever. My sweet tooth has definitely come in late

Enjoy! Would love to hear a newcomer's thoughts on it. I remember it being so immersive and cinematic the first time I played.

Though many of its innovations are now common in other games.

Yeah like the average person has never heard of enshitification. It's not even an established concept in their mind.

They may have a vague sense that things are getting shittier on the big platforms, but probably don't even consider smaller platforms or decentralization as solutions

My parents, in their 70s, started receiving a guaranteed income supplement (they're Canadian). They're still poor, but finally they can afford the basics of survival without having to work full time.

It's such a huge change.

I've been getting away with this for many years, and would like to pass it on to you now. It's like an intrusive thought, but a fun one.

For instance when writing to a friend:

Make sure to save yourself some Halloween candy!

Take a moment to muse over the modification:

Make sure to save Yousef some Halloween candy!

Who is this Yousef and why does he get your friend's candy?? Take a moment to enjoy this incongruity, then send the original message. Congratulations, you've just had a moment of whimsy, and no one's the wiser.

You'll find there's no end to what these Yousefs get themselves involved in. May also work with variants of the name like Joseph, I haven't tried.

Okay. Enjoy!

Description: A skillet with roughly breaded triangular chunks of tofu cooking in it. The pieces of tofu are arranged so that they're laying in the the skillet on a short side with a point sticking up.

I feel like I've attained a new level in veg/an cooking (this is 100% vegan, to be clear): crisping the tofu on three sides.

Normally I'll just jostle the pan and let nature take its course, but I was trying a new breading (crushed up some stale woven wheat crackers + spices). It turned out really well.

Tofu marinade was nothing extra: sesame oil, spicy mustard, and splash of sauce soya.

Self explanatory.

Just something I heard years ago, and it's been rolling around in my head ever since.

Hoping to pass it along. Rid myself of it.

Hey sobernauts out there on the clear dry seas lol. The pink cloud is gone, so now I'm just in the daily living part (7mos), but even still, had a bit of a realisation recently.

I got unexpectedly laid off from my job recently, which previously would have been a big trigger to hit the bar. But this time I was thankful that I didn't drink anymore (or smoke for that matter). Not even for the money (although that is one factor), but that despite all my problems at least I don't have to deal with the ravages of booze on top of everything else. I can move forward with real world solutions to my actual problem with a clear head.

It especially hit me when shortly after my layoff, a friend came over with a "care package" of junk food and a light beer, saying to my partner "c'mon not even one beer." But I realised that I wasn't even tempted (though the inertia from old habits could have easily led me to drink).

Anyway, this friend doesn't know how much I value my sobriety (we used to drink together a lot a lot), so I thanked him for the thought, but gave the beer to another friend of mine.

That's the story. My physical addiction to alcohol isn't that great thankfully, so it's not that dramatic, but it still felt like a nice reinforcement that I'm on the right path.

Screenshot of Mario Kart for SNES with text reading "give up?" And two choices shown: "yes" and "no." The option "no" is selected. Luigi is also pictured on the lower half of the screen.
