Is your country great again? Was so difficult to vote for her instead to avoid this fascistic nightmare, wasn't it?

[–] glorkon@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

That slogan "Make America great again" made us Germans very uneasy from the start, cause we remember the last guy who promised us (very literally) to make Germany great again.

Where do you think Trump got the idea for it?

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 12 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Of course he got it from Hitler, who got the idea from America's "Manifest Destiny" philosophy. It's fascist turtles all the way down ...

[–] ratten 1 points 21 hours ago

It would be something else if we saw a Native American form of "Zionism" where they plotted to retake their original lands from those who stole it.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

Ronald Reagan's campaign.

[–] Tingle@lemmy.world 6 points 22 hours ago

I'd assume it was Ronald Reagan since it was also his slogan in the 1980's.

It's pretty clear that Trump is a fascist piece of shit but this game he is playing has been going on a lot longer than people think.

I know that Trump secretly admires moustache guy. But I honestly don't think he is well-read or intelligent enough to realize it's exactly the same slogan moustache guy used. With Trump, willful ignorance is always the most likely option because malicious intent requires a degree of intellect he does not possess.

Ivana said Trump kept a book of Hitler's speeches by the bed. He definitely knows it's the same slogan.

Well, I still doubt he read them all.

As a German native speaker, I have listened to almost all of the publicly available Hitler speeches, and I found it incredibly hard to keep paying attention. It's as bad as Mein Kampf - just weird sequences of relatively incoherent segments of his twisted world views. Very hard to follow.

And Trump is well known for his extremely short attention span. I would be very, very surprised if that man managed to read even a single Hitler speech from start to finish in one sitting.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

Secretly admires?

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Underestimating him is how we got here.

[–] glorkon@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

No, underestimating the capacity of a large amount of idiots to recognize all the flaws of this unspeakably horrible person and elect the fucker nonetheless, that's what got us here.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago

He just stole it from Reagan's campaign.

[–] ratten 6 points 21 hours ago

Democrats bear almost as much blame for nominating "lesser-evil" candidates over someone who is actually good.

Donald Trump won because Bernie lost, twice.

[–] 3abas@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

You deserve it for refusing to vote for a viable candidate. You don't get to blame people who rejected a genocidal candidate, blame those who called genocide lesser evil.

Maybe when everyone is on the same page about rejecting evil, something will change. But no, you'll downvote and feel self righteous about it as you cheerlead for another fascist (Newsom).

[–] varnia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 hours ago

Have you been following the situation in Gaza? The idea that Trump was ever the "lesser evil" was always a dangerous delusion - especially when the alternative was so clear.

The U.S. two-party system leaves little room for ambiguity: if you didn’t vote for Harris, you effectively enabled Trump. Now, the world has to grapple with the consequences -rising far-right movements, rollbacks on LGBTQIA+ rights, the gutting of climate policies, and a surge in anti-immigrant rhetoric.

This isn’t about partisan bickering; it’s about accountability. The choice was straightforward, and the fallout is global. How do you justify looking away when the stakes were this high?
