What a dumb comment. Proper equipment is very important for pretty much any sport and very much so for cycling. If you've ever been on a ride for more than an hour you'll understand exactly what those are for.
The only "proper equipment" you need for a bike ride is the bike. Everything else is matter of preference.
I ride year around wearing hiking gear along with combat boots, mechanix padded gloves and a 10kg backpack. It might not be optimal for time trials but I also don't want to be stranded in the middle of the forest wearing spandex or without tools incase of a mechanical failure.
So you're saying I should be equipped for a multi day trip in the wilderness when I go on my two hour evening round?
"So you're saying.." is such a meme that I can't believe you're actually using it unironically.
No, that strawman is not even remotely what I'm saying.
Buddy, going to the grocery store isn't a sport, and nobody needs to wear spandex to do it. If you do sports on your bike that's great, but other people don't have to.
I was in no way implying that anyone should wear spandex. I'm just saying it's dumb to make fun of people who do.
