I wish they had followed the original story. The ending is very different.

They both still loop in the story. Before killing the big bad they fight to the death because the loop will keep repeating unless there is only one mimic (the reset aliens and both of them) at the end of the day.

He kills her and the other mimics then the big boss. Ending the loop at the cost of her life.

Depressing endings are so rare in movies that I, personally, often enjoy them for the novelty if nothing else.
