A sadly underappreciated show:

Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles

[โ€“] Pumafred9@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

3000 Years of Longing maybe? Tilda is very caring and acknowledging of her Djinn's needs.

[โ€“] Corridor8031@lemmy.ml 10 points 6 hours ago

Alita: Battle Angel i think was like this a bit, but it is maybe not straightforward enough

maybe the no game no life movie , but i dont think that is really what you are looking for

Mary Poppins

Alien (if you count the cat)

28 Days Later

Run Lola Run (sorta)

Alien (if you count the cat)

I count Ripley following protocol and refusing to open the airlock for a contaminated crewmate. If Ash hadn't stepped in, the movie would have ended very differently.

[โ€“] toynbee@lemmy.world 1 points 48 minutes ago

I don't remember much of that movie, but an Aliens / Evil Dead crossover sounds like a lot of fun.

Also she defended Burke when the Marines were going to kill him for what he did. I mean she wanted him punished but... Letter of the law here. He was weak, she defended him.

I meant that Jonesy is the weak male that Ripley physically and emotionally protects.

[โ€“] Changer098@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 15 hours ago

Jonesy is a good cat

Wanted (2008 film) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanted_(2008_film)

Angelina Jolie carries the protagonist until he can learn to fight on two feet

The first Underworld from 2003 is like this, but it's painfully early 2000s. It's from that era when every action movie was ripping of The Matrix as hard as possible.

[โ€“] scoobford@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 hours ago

Pain? No that feeling is wonder.

It is wonderfully early 2000s.

[โ€“] NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml 12 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Kate Beckinsale younger and in leather. Nice.

[โ€“] nirodhaavidya@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

In the universe I'm originally from she's clad in shiny vinyl (yes, please) and her name was Beckinsdale.

[โ€“] VeryVito@lemmy.ml 51 points 19 hours ago

Terminator 2 is probably the easiest answer.

Firefly original series with Wash + Zoe

[โ€“] HiddenLayer555@lemmy.ml 19 points 18 hours ago

Not a movie but Star Trek Voyager might be something you'll enjoy?

[โ€“] Inucune@lemmy.world 25 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

First matrix. Trinity is much more skilled than Neo until the final act.

[โ€“] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Then the same but in reverse in Matrix 4 but no one should watch that shitshow

[โ€“] yaroto98@lemmy.world 19 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Similarly - Edge of Tomorrow Emily Blunt is skilled and trains Tom Cruise until he's competent enough to save the world. By the end they're both extremely competent. Only reason Tom Cruise saves the world and not her is due to the timeloops. She'd already done it once.

[โ€“] bufalo1973@piefed.social 4 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

I wish they had followed the original story. The ending is very different.

[โ€“] racketlauncher831@lemmy.ml 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Do you mind spoiling us please?

[โ€“] Hugin@lemmy.world 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

They both still loop in the story. Before killing the big bad they fight to the death because the loop will keep repeating unless there is only one mimic (the reset aliens and both of them) at the end of the day.

He kills her and the other mimics then the big boss. Ending the loop at the cost of her life.

[โ€“] balance8873@lemmy.myserv.one 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I am extremely happy they didn't end the movie that way, what an unnecessarily depressing ending

[โ€“] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 46 minutes ago

Depressing endings are so rare in movies that I, personally, often enjoy them for the novelty if nothing else.

[โ€“] HubertManne@piefed.social 9 points 16 hours ago

curiously I have seen it with tv shows lately. A good place, hellava boss, and the anime Tougen Anki has like the most extreme version of that I think possible. I feel like I have seen more but can't recall atm.

[โ€“] spittingimage@lemmy.world 12 points 17 hours ago

Aliens. After Gorman's breakdown, all the marines start taking orders from Ripley.
