A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Didn't Israel start by bombing Lebanon ~~weeks~~ months ago?
Edit: months, not weeks: Israel bombed southern Lebanon on October 13.
Do you think they bombed Lebanon out of nowhere? Or was it a response to a certain wave of attacks which displaced the entire northern Israeli population?
Given Israel's history of warmongering in Lebanon, I wouldn't be surprised if it was unprovoked.
It was not unprovoked. Hezbollah joined Hamas’s attack from Oct 7
Citation needed.
Nassrallah said several times that they've begun doing this in support of Hamas.
And the recent attack by Israel is a response to Hizballah's attack on Safed.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel%E2%80%93Hezbollah_conflict_(2023%E2%80%93present)
Which in turn was in response to...going back to the illegal occupation of South Lebanon by Israel.
South Lebanon is occupied by Israel??
Look up Shebaa farms
Was Syrian in '67 in the six day war.
And Assad still declares it as Syrian territory.
Is Israel Syria?
Is Lebanon Syria?
It's certainly not Israel.
Lebanon existed long before Israel was Theodor Herzl's wet dream.
Before the current state of Israel, certainly.
And the whole area was Greater Syria for a while too.
Not sure how this is relevant though.
You wrote that Hizballah attacked in response to Israel occupying south Lebanon, which it isn't.
Either way Nasrallah already said the attacks were in support of Hamas.
Shebaa farms were tended by Lebanese citizens. Before the illegal occupation by Israel, they paid taxes to the Lebanese government. Any dispute between Syria and Lebanon is because of foreign colonialists meddling in affairs that should have never been theirs.
The shebaa farms have been an issue between Israel and Hezbollah ever since Israel failed to withdraw from the territory in 2000 in typical colonial settler state fashion.
The recent escalation is due to Israel's heavy handed response to Hamas, but this is not a new issue.
That's not what you initially wrote.
Which is what I clarified in the first place.
And Hizballah attacked a day after Hamas did. On the 8th of October. That's before Israel's response.
Syria, the UN and the USA all agree that Shebaa farms were Syrian territory in 1967.
Israel was not required to withdraw from the area according to the UN Security Council resolutions.
I'm not quite sure about Lebanon but israel bombed multiple people first, notably Syrian airfields. Multiple times.
Syria even been in this war iirc.
Israel used 7 Oct to attack a whole bunch of people they don't like under the pretense of counter terrorism
Israel is just a shitty warmongering nation.
We in the west focus on Iran but the real blight in the region is Israel.
Really, you’d rather support Iran, a nation where women are beaten and killed for not covering themselves completely? How is Israel the blight in the region, besides being the easy target completely surrounded by countries that hate it for being different aka not Muslim and being a democracy that supports LGBTQ?
Because Israel is an apartheid, settler colonial nation in the middle of an ethnic cleansing campaign and Iran isn't.
Apartheid? How? There are no laws prohibiting any race to do… anything in Israel.
It's been called an apartheid state by multiple NGO's, South Africa, and UN investigators. This includes Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, Yesh Din, and B'Tselem.
Amnesty international wrote a while report on it. To summarize they keep them segregated and fragmented, and have a bunch of laws and policies to restrict movement of travel, where they can live, citizenship, preventing it through marriage, where they can drive and things like that Meanwhile, they have laws characterizing Israel as a Jewish state, the Right of Return for Jewish people, expanding settlements for Jewish people in the West Bank, and it goes on. The evidence is very extensive.
