Had one on my shoulder last week. Thought it was a wolf spider at first. Hid it's legs tucked up just like this and buzzed hard when I tried to pick it up.

TIL click beetle is a real group of beetles and not just something we called them where I grew up.
And they click real loud when they want to.
That fucking click haunts me like something from a horror movie
I used to find these with my cousin all the time in central Illinois and 40 years ago (ugh, how is that possible?)... Haven't seen one in a very long time though.
