Marc van der Chijs said, "I don’t think Trump’s speech will gain him a lot of new voters among Bitcoiners."

"The other way around, many will now see him for what he really is," he added. "It was my first time watching him speak live. He sounds like a low IQ conman to me, I wouldn’t believe anything he tells me."

Is trump new to anyone? Wow. Yes. Yes, he’s a low IQ conman. Congratulations on sussing it out so quickly, some red state yokels will never grok it.

Has to have been a rough speech if crypto bros are saying he is a dumb conman.

[-] barsquid@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

They're used to high IQ conmen.

[-] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

Did he show up with a mirror finish like Silver Surfer?

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Cryto bros aren't stupid, they are foolish and ignorant. It actually takes quite a bit of intelligence (i.e. can do coding) to do anything with crypto on your own.

[-] BakerBagel@midwest.social 6 points 3 months ago

Literally all it takes is a binance account and a down payment and you can make your own cryptocurrency off Ethereum. Thats what most cryptoscams do because it takes almost no time and is crazy easy to start and manipulate.

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

But are those who we're calling crypto bros? For me, it's the people who set up their own mining rigs.

[-] BakerBagel@midwest.social 4 points 3 months ago

Anyone into Cryptocurrencies is a crypto bro. The vast majority of which do not have the means to do any actual mining.

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 24 points 3 months ago

I'm amazed that the people dumb enough to fall for crypto are able to see through Trump like a window. It's surreal.

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

To be fair, I wouldn't blanket that convention with "people who fell for crypto". You've got those, but more likely people who sell crypto who are either con men or tech bros. I'm not at all surprised they'd be unimpressed with the low IQ con man, lol

[-] Etterra@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Fair point. My implication was for the suckers who lost their savings, not the asshole rug pullers who did the scamming. I should have been clearer about that.

[-] Tja@programming.dev 2 points 3 months ago

Mamy people fall for crypto for greed, not stupidity.

These are people who think that Musk is an intellect, don't forget. For every person who notices Trump for what he is, there are 10 sycophants who think he can do no wrong.

[-] barsquid@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

I'm just impressed by how succinctly and accurately "low IQ conman" describes Donald.

[-] seathru@lemmy.sdf.org 84 points 3 months ago

Martin Vrijland said Trump's speech actually tanked the price of the cryptocurrency.

I like this much more than I feel is appropriate for a political pun, but I'm gonna continue liking it regardless.

“Gettysburg, what an unbelievable battle that was. It was so much, and so interesting, and so vicious and horrible, and so beautiful in so many different ways--it represented such a big portion of the success of this country. Gettysburg, wow--I go to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to look and to watch. And the statement of Robert E. Lee, who's no longer in favor--did you ever notice it? He's no longer in favor. 'Never fight uphill, me boys, never fight uphill.' They were fighting uphill, he said, 'Wow, that was a big mistake,' he lost his great general. 'Never fight uphill, me boys,' but it was too late."

So I don’t like msn, I went to look for a different source. I fould a lot of matter-of-fact articles “trump gives speech” type things. I found some dipshitty “trump’s gonna …” and “trump believes…” articles. Nothing about his reception.

So, I dug further and dug through some crypto forums. The few that I read said things like “never watch political speech before” and “he’s a good businessman, so” …

Apparently he tried to score with a line about stablecoin which didn’t work, because, uh, bitcoin go brrrr i guess. Didn’t see a lot of belief that he knew anything but they all appreciated the woohooing he gave. In the three or four communities I looked, I didn’t see any real political opinion, quite a lot of political naïevite, and strong sensation that the commenters were all in a culture of ‘manufacturing consent’ to coin a phrase.

So is the crypto vote an actual bloc of any substance? It is according to the crypto channels. Other than that, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They have money to spend, and Trump wants them to spend it on him. Whether they will or not remains to be seen.

He’s totally launching TruthCoin.

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

I worked part time for a guy trying to make a new coin and earn bank on IPO. Same type of guy.

Unsurprisingly I ghosted them when I didn't get paid. But he's still got money and isn't in jail so... meh.

[-] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 3 points 3 months ago

Same type of guy.

That's everyone working in crypto now. If you're buying and holding, you're the "exit strategy" for these guys.

Anyone smart enough to work in finance is going to understand that Bitcoin is unregulated, so you can do lots of things that are illegal in regular markets. That means that the top "Bitcoin finance" guys are knowingly defrauding the market.

Would you want to invest in a something that was sold almost exclusively by smart unethical people? Also, it pays no dividends or interest (because it produces nothing).

[-] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago

They're all gonna vote for him so who cares

[-] SweetBilliam@midwest.social 1 points 3 months ago

Nah. It's like anywhere else, the loud kinda dumb fucks in the group are trumpers. Don't mistake Twitter for the scene.
