I was feeling a bit antsy and there wasn't a thread yet at 22 past midnight.

Have a great day everyone. May you and the animals of the DT who like sunbathing get some sun.

The Daily Chair. I've been working on the second chair and am going to put on the cover this evening. In the meantime I'm waiting for the weather to warm up a little so I can finish staining the the wood chairs. Here's a preview of the first with just one coat of stain and varnish, the seat is removeable. I think it looks not too bad.

I scored in the 75%-100% \ 4th quartile on my CASPer (the ghost) test when I had covid which means I scored better than 75%-100% of the other test takers. The test must have been held in a cemetery for me to be able to do that well.

I am cold and I am frozen.

Currently defrosting in my office.

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago

The english guy on our team was wearing a jacket over his jumper today. I've not seen that ever before

[-] Duenan@aussie.zone 7 points 1 month ago

If an English guy is doing that, then it's definatly cold!

I’m feeling like shit on so many levels.

Homelessness, mental illness, Australia being unequal for vulnerable peopleThere’s an aggressive mentally ill homeless man that’s been coming around my place for ages and now he’s sleeping on a bench right outside my window.

So I get to be too scared to put my bin out and he gets to freeze because it’s not safe for me to approach or help him.

Hate the guy’s guts (he’s aggressively had a go at me before and is virulently homophobic) but I don’t want to watch him freeze or have to deal with him.

I’ve been calling the cops for months, psych triage, the local homeless services, nothing has been working.

The best I have is from today - Launch agreeing to pass a ‘sleep site’ on to their outreach team to check. But they don’t come out at night and I don’t know where this scary stranger goes in the day. He also drinks which might exclude him from dorm style shelters (which don’t apparently exist in Australia the way you think of them?) and may also not have the awareness to accept help.

It’s just one of those deteriorating revolving door situations that never ever gets solved. Australia’s systems are broken. Very surprising for a so called rich country.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago

some people are so paranoid they would rather die than be sociable or accept help

so many hugs, it sucks but we can't fix the world

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 1 month ago

Can you somehow make the bench unusable? I get that might be considered cruel but you shouldn't be scared in your own home or to be able to step out of it.

@melbaboutown @LowExperience2368 Huge hugs.

There were signs up around the apartment block where we live recently warning about a homeless guy who had been trespassing, and to call strata and the police if you see him.

Just from the photo, he looked creepy AF!

Apparently he spent a couple of nights in the basement carpark, and cut power to the building's alarm system one night. (The strata managers only found out after they reviewed the CCTV footage.)

And anyone angry and drunk shouting homophobic slurs is always scary.

So I can definitely relate to how you must be feeling!

You're doing the right thing by trying to help. But I agree it really is shameful how much our pollies have cut the social safety net these past 40-odd years (and both major parties are to blame!). It means people who need help often don't get it.

Take care, stay safe 💜

0.2, "feels like" -1.8 here. No wonder it was such a struggle to get out of bed.

Edit: damn, gone down to -0.2, feels like -2.3

1.4 feels like -2.1 fuck this shit

A pixel 6 pro phone case fits perfectly over the base plate for things like light switches.

The call nurse button here has a constant bright blue light that's very distracting. The room is almost dark with my phone case over it

I just can’t get onboard with the whole run/walk thing. Kath and Kel Knight just reside in my brain and overpower any legitimacy the sport may have.

I want Glen robins back on tv. If he could do a revival of Russell Coight show I would be so happy.

You just made me picture Glenn Robbins and merely picturing the man in any of his various guises is enough to make me laugh inwardly.

Lately I've been indulging in Bakers Delight's custard teatimes. It's like a pull-apart that consists of soft fluff mini bread scrolls joined together and infused with a delicious creamy custard and a delectable sticky icing and dusted with desiccated coconut topping (like a Boston bun).

Can be enjoyed anytime of the day but somehow tastes better late at night when everyone has gone to bed. Luckily I have a regular dealer who can hook me up with a discounted loaf at a moments notice (provided she's working that day).

Here's what's left of last night's session

I was so close to a "fuck it all" frozen chips purchase for dinner tonight but I think I'll make that tomorrow's, since tomorrow is when I really will be done with the week and ready to collapse.

Got leftover dahl for tonight, guess I'll make some rice and do a side of stir fried frozen veg.

On the topic of cooking, I bought a tube of Mutti 51% tomato paste mixed with aromatic veg (carrot, celery, onion) the other day. That has been really useful for making quick sauces. Lasts a month in the fridge once opened. Made a delicious napoli sauce in no time yesterday with a tin of tomatoes.... Definitely a repeat purchase. Could be useful for pilafs and curries and stews

My plans for a chicken schnitzel burger were destroyed by my lack of a burger bun. I had a few long rolls so made a chicken schnitzel sub instead. It's weird how a different shaped roll makes a completely different meal.

Is anyone else getting condensation and mould on their windows?

What do you prefer using to clean it, and are boxes of baking soda a good cheap substitute for the moisture absorbing tubs?

I air the house out with the screen doors locked but between the cold and other people I can’t have things open all the time.

Clothing ramblesStocked up on socks and jocks thinking I was getting the previous kind I liked. The lower elastic digs into your bum and there has been fabric saving creep in the cut - those ‘boylegs’ are definitely just midi briefs now, and those have turned into bikini. The socks fit ok but the thin fabric will probably get holes in weeks to months.

Ok, dude has ignored the cardboard I ‘accidentally’ left out as an insulation layer and refused to engage with cops on a welfare check. Anything else I leave out for warmth would possibly be interpreted as some kind of encouragement or invitation so isn’t really safe to do. (This guy is an aggressive threatening sleaze and highly unpredictable.)

I found another local outreach number so will try that tomorrow

Gratitude thread.

Grateful for the sun :)

[-] PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 8 points 1 month ago

Grateful for people thinking of others and having situational awareness on the bus. Bus is crowded. People get on and the students give their seats up for the elderly. More people get on, including a couple of people with walkers. The most spry of the elders give up their seats for those people. People move down the back without the driver having to do their lolly about it. Very civilized all round.

I'm grateful that the lawn mower worked. That grass never stood a chance once I remembered you have to start it neutral.

@LowExperience2368 I've got 15 minutes to wait for a compulsory company-wide Zoom call.

Not enough time to make headway on any of my tasks for today, but too ling to do nothing.

How's everyone else's day been so far?

I'm having trouble trying to google search this, but is there a name for the type of movement of an animal that can walk on all fours, but also use their front/forearms to climb.

Like monkeys and koalas for instance.

I feel like quadruped isn't correct.
