Guess Amazon doesn’t have enough money already

[-] fckreddit@lemmy.ml 23 points 1 year ago

It's never enough for these greedy asses.

[-] Merlin404@lemmy.world 40 points 1 year ago

I pay for it, stopp giving me ads, it's already to much with ads at the beginning sometimes. Will not continue with prime then🤷

[-] authed@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 year ago

Prime is already a rip off without the ads

[-] XTL@sopuli.xyz 23 points 1 year ago

They already have ads. What's the change?

[-] Noved@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Only thing I can think of is ads during content instead of before?

Yar har I guess.

I basically never use Prime Video but if i recall correctly there already is ads before after and inbetween shows.

[-] odium@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago

Right now there's a section in prime video that's titled free with ads(only if you have prime). After the change, all prime videos will be in that section.

[-] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

I wonder if they'll add ads for the branded channels too or they'll remain as they are.

[-] shasta@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Some of those like Paramount+ already have their own ads

[-] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 year ago

They increased the price of Prime already to like $160 a year and now they're adding ads while saying if you don't want ads you can pay another $2.99?

[-] phillaholic@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago

I Pre-paid for a year of a service that they are now changing a fundamental element of. We should be able to cancel and get a refund of the remaining cost in situations like this.

[-] tryptaminev@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

in most countries you can. What country are you living in where one side can just declare a change to a contract without the other side agreement?

[-] p1mrx@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

They're saying $2.99 because it sounds better than $36/year.

[-] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

[enshittification intensifies]

This is a win win for them. I don't think anybody has prime for just prime video. It's just an additional perk. The main perk is the free one day and two day shipping. Even if people stop watching prime video, they're mostly not going to cancel their prime because there are other perks they use. If they keep the membership but don't watch prime video, then that is resource savings for Amazon which translates to less operating costs. If they do watch it, that translates to ad revenue. Either way, win win. At this point there is pretty much no reason not to sail the high seas.

Cool. I thought about getting Prime Video this winter to catch up on some exclusives, but that's apparently not happening. I'm not paying for ads, and I don't think I'll find $3/month increase over current prices worthwhile.

I bailed at the last price increase (wasn't watching or ordering much anyway), and this just encourages me to look elsewhere. I guess I'll go back to buying DVDs...

I'll still pay for prime for deliveries, but I'll stop watching their mediocre streaming service. Ads are viscerally disgusting.

[-] phlemmy@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

I suspect the deliveries is bullshit anyways. I cancelled my prime, shipping is still free, but they claim it will be 3-5 days. In reality I get them in 1-2 days anyways.

[-] anarchrist@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

I had the opposite experience: they gave me a prime trial and my shit still just took 3-5 days so i went back. I suspect it's more of a fin-dom thing than an actual service.

[-] dojan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Sadly I don’t think they’ll care if in the end you still pay for it.

[-] chahk@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

Papa Jeff needs another rocket.

[-] strawberry@artemis.camp 2 points 1 year ago

daddy bezos needs another vacation to space

[-] smellythief@beehaw.org -4 points 1 year ago

At least there’s a cheap option to remove them. I’ll pay the $3/mo.

Course you will. That's what they already anticipated.
