That's the patina of my parents' old photos. The feeling they evoke feels almost... mystical, at this point.
This looks like a pose for a professional photographer, in his photo studio, with those cameras where the man behind was covered in a black curtain, and the film plate was slid in and out the side, in a handheld tray.
At least two lamps, maybe four, were pointed at the couple. Very uniform, consistent lighting.
