Is there some major difference between it and the console versions? Otherwise, why should it be priced lower? I mean I'm not going to buy it anyway, so I have no skin in this game, but it seems reasonable to charge the same thing for the same game across the board.
Yes and no. The mobile game market is very different from PC/console. The size, age group, how much users are willing to spend etc. Pricing isn’t just about the product, it’s about the market as well as many other factors.
So far, the majority of PC games are around that price point, on mobile most games are f2p. I can’t think of any other game with a price of $60.
I’m not saying it should be cheaper, but I’m curious to see how much of a success this will be at that price point combined with iPhone 15 pro only. It’s certainly an interesting move and different from what I’ve seen so far for mobile phone pricing.
I’ll get it on PSVR as soon as that’s out.
For games like this, the touchscreen experience is just inferior to using a controller, and the thought of buying a controller for a phone doesn’t even occur to most users.
That plus the fact that most phone games are so horrible and borderline abusive have really driven home the assumption that phone games are supposed to be cheap and low-quality.
Some decent well-known peripherals and more high-quality games could change that over time, but I think it will be a while before it doesn’t look bizarre to have full-blown console prices for phone games.
And you just know that if it becomes normalized, we’re going to see generic casino and puzzle games jumping on the premium price bandwagon, but still trying to sell gems and shit.
You can use a controller on the iPhone. The iPad Pro has an M1 chip, just like the MacBooks. You can even cast to your TV and play that way. Sure, it’s not going to be the exact same as console quality, but iPhones have been better than the PS3 for a few years due to engine optimizations and better hardware.
I’m a no because I’d never pay that much for a phone game no matter what it is, although I’ve seen people spend way more money than that on IAP in “free” games.
If it comes to iPads and Macs, paying $60 with the ability to access the game on different platforms + cloud saves may make it a compelling buy for the platform.
Now, if only Apple could beef up the AppleTV enough to be able to handle this game like a proper console (or at least close to it). It’d be an excellent experience given that controller support has arrived on all of these devices.
Per the article, it will be playable on M1 iPads and Macs, so hopefully a single purchase will cover you across all three device types.
Forgot about this feature. Thanks.
It’s not a new feature either. I used it at least 4 years ago. Plugged my phone into my monitor, Bluetooth controller, and I could play games on my nice monitor. It’s even easier now with USB-C I’d imagine, I was using the lightning-hdmi dongle.
🤡
There’s some negativity about the price due to it being much higher than usual for a mobile platform. But I hope that it does well. Despite having good hardware games on iOS, iPad OS and TV OS are really lacking in quality. If this game shows there is a viable market for AAA games then that could change.
I'm not convinced that mobile is a good platform for longer-term games.
want to spend 5-10 minutes waiting on the bus while flapping a bird or crushing some candy? makes sense to me.
Resident Evil? I'm not so sure.
On the other hand, Fortnite seems to work, so what do I know?
Anyway, I think Phones have become powerful enough that they should be able to get docked to a Desk/TV. Then it makes more sense to me again, a Phone could be the only computing device most people use
I’m sure a five minute wait playing RE4 on your phone will also leave you hunting for a charger at your next destination as well. As cool as it would be to play big games, my phone is just too important for everything else.
Fair. Although Pokémon go players seem to have found a solution for that problem ^^

Apart from that, steam deck is hugely successful. You could get a controller that wraps around your phone and you basically have the same thing (with many asterisks).
Seems like a NOPE for anyone who only has an iPhone, but if you’re deep into Apple ecosystem with a Mac or an iPad, it seems reasonable if it becomes available in all of your devices and your save data is synced across devices, but if not, then it’s a bad deal no matter how you put it. Imagine running it on the AppleTV.
Honestly I don’t think you’re gonna drive users with a console to buy it again if it looks the same or worse.
I think this kind of first releases is a wait-and-see. If it’s performance is on par with consoles, and there is sync saves, it may be an excellent deal.
It’s not that you can buy RE4 on Xbox and play it on PC too with a single purchase, can you?
For someone else it will. I'll stick with Apple Arcade.
The game is almost 20 years old. My great grandchildren are going to be seeing ads for skyrim and RE4 rereleases into the 22nd century
This is the remake which is new.
Yet when Hollywood remakes a movie, everyone loses their mind
This is a proppa remake.
Not what I was expecting tbh, usually mobile game variants are cheaper even if it’s the same game. Not saying it should be, but that has basically been the norm so far.
