These miserable, dimwitted, hateful assholes are going to drag the rest of the world to the hell of climate change.

Privileged twits are a huge danger, yes.

This is a just a preview of what is coming when trump loses.

[-] floofloof@lemmy.ca 43 points 2 days ago

Possibly also what's coming if Trump wins.

[-] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

No, only if he loses.

If he wins, America is done.

[-] actually@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

If he wins, America is done.

Which America? It’s a huge country, only parts would be done , only some groups would be persecuted, and the background death rate would only go up by 2 or 3 times elsewhere due to collapse of services and medicine. People as a whole would get poorer, but many are already poor

Vast amounts of people will never notice

[-] Kalkaline@leminal.space 22 points 2 days ago

And what if he wins? NOAA is fucking gone, given away to corporations.

Already sorta sold, some records aren't public because of some agreement with a private companies proprietary code.

As I understand it yes, there were a couple articles about it maybe a month ago.

[-] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 2 days ago

What jerks. I suspected something was up but I thought it was just govt being cheap with memory. Turns out nope it's corps.

Oh I am very, very much betting on Jan 6th Round 2: Electric Boogaloo.

I will honestly be fucking amazed if there are not widespread conspiracy insanity and terrorism if Trump loses.

We've already got democratic political offices being shot up in drive bys, fucktons of open attempts at taking over election boards and changing all the rules last minute to intentionally sow chaos, militias saying they are out hunting FEMA responders, mass bomb threats called in based on made up stories about Haitians eating cats...

Idiots don't realise that hurricanes are controlled from Australia, from pine gap.

[-] Lepsea@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago

It's all the emus plan to take over the world

[-] GreeNRG@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 days ago

Isn't that only for controlling pine trees?

[-] Coskii@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 2 days ago

It sure does show the state of things.

Then again I was stuck in a decent amount of traffic today and the sheer amount of people who attempt to "beat the system" of driving in an orderly manner is also insanely high.

I'd love to think that we're better than this as a society, but the reality of the situation is that we're one or two small steps from pure anarchy and it really wouldn't take all that much to get there from where we are.

Also relevant: "Always shoot the messenger first." :)

If news unsettles a person, and there's a cognitive dissonance upon processing their world model ("everything OK with climate") and sensory input ("another big freaking hurricane") then if the person isn't a model of rational thought and already has a fad for conspiracies...

...one might find it easier to add another conspiracy theory to one's collection, as opposed to harder steps like refreshing one's model of how the world functions. :o

In his official statement, president Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho said "The people are right to not trust a science they can't pronounce"

“The people are right to not trust a science they can’t pronounce”

One of the basic arguments against "Ultraprocessed Fods" (UPF)... I shit you not.

😭😭 Because scientists naming chemicals had nutrition in mind

I wish food labels came with the full binomial nomenclature including the variety and subspecies.

Here's your sandwich:

  • Triticum aestivum L. ssp aestivum
  • Lactuca sativa L. var. crispa
  • Solanum lycopersicum L. var. esculentum
  • Glycine max (L.) Merr.
  • Piper nigrum L.

It's a fallacy that law enforcement needs 30 secs of someone on the line to trace a call. Any call can be traced, almost immediately. I doubt the largest cell providers even require a warrant . we know for a fact that Amazon hands over video from ring cameras with or without owners permission. I bet if someone were inclined to try, they could probably call up Amazon, say they're a cop and just "here you go, hero". Smh. Regardless, it's not like there are judges that effectively give autographed rubber stamps to the police chiefs, right?

Every death threat that isn't followed up upon is a choice made by LE. They allow this to continue. It could be shut down, right fucking now, if they would just do their fucking jobs and not leverage domestic terrorism because it benefits them.

[-] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 3 points 2 days ago

This sounds like a tin foil hat conspiracy but not.

Schrodinger's Law Enforcement.

TBF it does take a hot minute to get an investigation going/done and this article has been circulating all weekend (very click baity and viralesque) so there hasn't been and follow up articles posted yet...so we'll see.

Climate - truthful information about climate, related activism and politics.

Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.
