The fact that Matt Gaetz wasn’t forced to resign in disgrace for being a sex trafficker says all you need to know about the GOP.

The fact that he isn’t in jail for those same crimes says all you need to know about the justice system in this country as well.

The fact that Matt Gaetz wasn’t forced to resign in disgrace for being a sex trafficker says all you need to know about the GOP.

I can only assume by his continued presence his constituency in Pensacola FL appreciates having their own personal values being reflected in their representation. People of Pensacola, please demonstrate I'm incorrect by voting him out.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Isnt Pensacola Florida where Kent Hovind is from? If so that would explain a lot about Gaetz.

[-] TechyDad@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Republican logic: "Sex trafficking of a minor? Fine if you're a Republican. Republican conducts major instances of fraud, including defrauding a veteran? Fine. Democrat pulls a fire alarm? He needs to go to prison immediately!!!"

[-] tomatopathe@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

And that other serial liar from NY.

[-] HWK_290@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

You mean speaker of the house George Santos? The very same George Santos that singlehandedly stopped a government shutdown and rallied bipartisan support the likes of which have never been equaled in modern history?

[-] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Perhaps he was talking about George Santos's father, George Santos. You know, the one who dropped the atom bomb on Osaka.

[-] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Ugh. We never wanted that goddamn Cheeto. He's a new Yorker like Foxwoods casino is owned by native Americans: technically true, but so different that in actuality, not.

[-] gregorum@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

the GOP is fueled by disgrace

[-] hoanbridgetroll@midwest.social 76 points 1 year ago

Matt wants to get back to his true passion project of owning teenage girls.

Also, is it just me or does he bear an uncanny resemblance to Richard Nixon in the picture?

[-] reddig33@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

Looks more like Butthead to me.

[-] Heratiki@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago

Why would you disparage Butthead in such a way? Blasphemer!!!

[-] Zink@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

I was just about to post that he looks like Beavis and Butthead had a baby.

[-] Fraylor@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Ahuhuhuhuhuhuh huhuhuhuhuh

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

Omg he does look about 5 shots and some cottage cheese pineapple away from Nixon

Gaetz is an entitled aristocrat. Child of a politician and a total piece of shit as a human being.

I know most of you already know this, but maybe someone will learn something new today.

[-] Astroturfed@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Wait, the guy who was caught fucking a teenage prostitute isn't a good dude?

[-] spider@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

but maybe someone will learn something new today

Probably includes no one in his district.

[-] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 35 points 1 year ago

"Ack ack! Ack ack, ACK ACK!" -Totaly not a Martian slams House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

[-] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

The party supposed to walk in lockstep no longer does, so any GOP speaker is destined to fail at this point.

I'm okay with that. Our forefathers assumed that the average person would vote to support their constituents. But instead, we got mofos voting against their own beliefs because "the other team" proposed it.

The Democrats only started playing the lockstep game after Republicans mastered it for decades. And honestly, people breaking rank and forcing bipartisanship and making concessions is what we are supposed to be doing.

[-] weedazz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

There is no way the average American will ever be able to comprehend anything more complicated than "my tribe" vs "not my tribe"

Also ranked choice voting got NYC Mayor Eric Adams. The election took way longer than it should have and they ended up with the "centrist"candidate that should have never gotten elected and disappointed both sides

[-] joel_feila@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah but democracy works when all sides are constantly miffed.

[-] spark947@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

What sucks about this attitude is that despite the clownshow of conservative PMs in Britain, the only thing more pathetic has been the political opposition. Hate hate to be a doomer, but it could go that way in the US too.

[-] Rapidcreek@reddthat.com 34 points 1 year ago

When you have people who don't believe in government or democracy in a democratic government you get neither government or democracy.

vote the bums out.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

Well, Groomer Gaetz had better make sure he's keeping his nose very clean on the trafficking and the grooming front. He's making some very powerful enemies that are sure to leak something that will actually land him in very hot water and this time he might not get away with it.

[-] TwoGems@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

What was the DOJ's dumb excuse for not charging him again

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

Does he know the job doesn’t come with children to molest?

[-] JakenVeina@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

"No no no, wait, I never said I would take the job!"

[-] carl_dungeon@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

Was that child rapist Matt Gaetz that said that?

[-] shadearg@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

Do it, Beavhead.

You're going to cry like a baby when they vote you speaker.

[-] 2piradians@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

I agree, but I don't think he'll have the support. It's orders of magnitude easier to be a thorn in the speaker's side than to do the job.

Also I see Beavis, Butthead, and a dash of Mr. Burns in this dingus caricature.

[-] shadearg@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Right, he'll certainly make it clear he will refuse like Jordan did. They're out of options. I sincerely hope the house keeps McCarthy.

My bet is on Trump, which will provide additional cover to thwart legal obligation and bolster his first amendment arguments moving into an election year. They won't move to oust him and they know he'll stand firm because he doesn't care about the job or the country. It will also put him in position of burning everything down if he doesn't get exactly what he wants.

I really hope I'm wrong.

Edit: grammar

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

And there are probably so many cons just waiting for the right moment to shiv him in the back - drop just the worst incriminating evidence at the worst possible time for him.

[-] m3t00@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

anytime the batshit crazies want to attack another batshit crazy is okay by me. Watched KM on FaceTNation, harp about the wonderful things DT will do when reelected. get him nuttso!

[-] chemicalprophet@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

These feltchlords should get a room already!

[-] GreenMario@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Arrest his ass for child fucking he has one in his house ffs. Surely the house speaker can hold that shit over his head unless in order to be a Republican you must do a child fucking ritual...

[-] Rapidcreek@reddthat.com 8 points 1 year ago

Prediction: Gaetz will ultimately fail

[-] uberkalden@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I find it hard to believe the rest of the republicans want to go through that shit show again

[-] dingleberry@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago
[-] canthidium@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Isn't it Baader–Meinhof when you notice something a lot suddenly? I swear I have been seeing Wishmaster mentioned all over the last few days. Nice burn btw.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

The Part of Fire moving to burn it all down rather than compromise.
