"using tanks to suppress Hungarian fascists makes me a tankie???"
Yes, supporting using tanks to suppress Hungarian leftist revolutionaries, the literal event which spawned the term tankie, makes a person a tankie.

What is a Tankie?
(caution of biased source)
Basic Rules:
Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.
Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.
Apologia — (Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.
Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.
Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.
Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

I don't think they were saying they wanted to use tanks to suppress Hungarian fascists. They're saying that they're being accused of wanting to suppress Hungarian fascists (?), just because what they actually said was that they don't like America.
I can't really make head or tail of the whole thing. Just wanted to point out that I think you might have misread that one part.
Ah, that interpretation makes sense. Repeating the canard about Hungarian revolutionaries being fascists, I think, made me interpret it in a less generous light.
Yeah, on the overall judgement, I think I agree with you still. I read some of the links. They're off their rocker. I was trying to see about the vote-rigging thing, but I stopped caring before I got to it.
"Ironic"
My first reaction was tldr
But i did read it...im not sure this is saying what you think it does. To me it sounds like you have multiple accounts and are cyber stalking this user and now making an info dump when they are leaving lemmy?
Like everyone needs a hobby but you've picked a weird one.
Can't believe i just wasted my time reading someone's vendetta shitpost
Funny how he calls the Hungary protestsers "fascists" and says they were suppressed completely leaving out the fact they were killed by tanks and troops. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_Revolution_of_1956
This is the same guy who claims the "taiwanese want to reunify with China and that Ukraine should roll over and let Russia have all the land"
I think there are malicious people on Lemmy who have learned to exploit tribal boundaries to get people on their side. People claiming to be vegan, or anarchist, or queer are three giant glaring examples of this. Once you've made the claim, you can come out of the gate with whatever bad-faith gibberish serves the purpose you're trying to accomplish, secure in the knowledge that a sizable amount of the people in that same tribe will go to bat for you because you're in the club.
(Also people claiming to be communist.)
I'm not saying that anyone professing to those things is a fake. Most people in all are clearly are being honest about it. I'm just saying that, even if someone's in your tribe, you need to look at what they're actually saying, and that it's okay not to support them even if they are wearing being-on-your-tribe on their sleeve to tempt you into being a good member of the tribe and backing them up on whatever action or belief they are currently about.
Tribalism is the stupidest thing ever. I remember seeing posts about Reddit meetups, advertising something by saying "support them, they're a redditor," etc, like using a given social media site somehow implied trust. It doesn't.
The same is true for political affiliations, gym memberships, or sports team preferences. Someone liking the same thing as you doesn't make them "better" than someone else, it just gives you something to talk about.
Yet look at how many people cite influencers, famous athletes, or politicians for things they have no expertise in. It's dumb. Why don't people think for themselves?
Honestly I don't care if someone is a communist. I think it way more important to put critical thought into your beliefs. Don't be a follower or to much of a idealist.
To be fair to this instance, hosting universalmonk seems to be common. See an exerpt of my blocklist
Also, FuckTankies
What in the world is a Mormon Satanist?
Other than that TL:DR...
Who knows. You probably want to start preemptively blocking UM's accounts now though. He has about 20 or so and several alts so it will take a bit.
The one thing that's been a much worse experience on Lemmy than Reddit or other similar social media is being Vegan, it fucking sucks here. And the anti-vegan bullshit is everywhere on Lemmy, simply mentioning it often feels like you've committed a war crime based on the replies.
To everyone who is part of that: you are shitty people who need to grow the fuck up.
Anti-vegan people don't make sense to me. I'm not vegan, but if someone doesn't want to eat meat, why does it matter?
another day and another post by sunshine beaver that is absolute pick-me behaviour
While I can't say I know Sunshine personally I do see them comment and post around Lemmy. I don't agree with her all the time but I respect her as a person.
You can respect her as a person and still think she's off her rocker.
I haven't seen anything that would suggest she is off her rocker. Flawed? Quite possibly. However I think we are all mostly human.
I'm going to get myself a cup of tea
Reason: unhinged person
None of these really prove they’re a tankie though. Most of these are saying they’re not. Seems dubious.
Aren’t you the person who freaked out awhile ago about horses being slaves or something?
Wait, are you actually Beaver on an alt? Because if so, it is very uncool to secretly ban people just for downvoting vegan comments. And using alts to dodge the consequences of your actions or do vote manipulation sucks too. And also in the future please think about how it reflects on the community when doing things like banning admins, even when they are being a dipshit. At least give a good faith effort to talk it out. Although honestly that led to some nice reform for the instance so I guess I won't hold that against you.
Here's some of the context for anyone else, although it's brief about the initial drama on the vegan cat food thread. https://lemmy.world/post/19731457
