It's not dumb only if their intent is to destroy the US and the West from within for Putin.

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 60 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He bankrupted his casinos, and he intends to do the same to US.

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 43 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

"Nobody knows more about bankrupting your own businesses like I do. People ask me, how can you bankrupt a casino? They're money printers! And I tell them, I'm the best there is at it. I'm going to make this country the most bankrupt country there is and it is going to be so beautiful. People love me for this. They love me bigly."

It's still dumb. He's forcing the west to reconfigure itself into a new economic structure that leaves the USA out of the loop. That will weaken us in the short term, but strengthen us in the long term (especially once Trump is gone and the USA joins the new global economic structure, albeit in a weakened capacity.) However, since Putin's been in a quagmire in Ukraine for the past three years he's not in a position to exploit that short-term weakness.

This is a case of Trump's idiocy overtaking his usefulness.

I live in a pretty liberal city (thank god). After the election the one neighbor who supported Trump proudly flew his Trump flag. Within the last few days the flag has been removed. I can’t tell if I’m happy he took it down or just real fucking pissed off. I’d like to think my neighbor has finally gotten it through his thick skull but I really think he should be forced to fly that flag so people know what a cunt he is.

[–] MyDogLovesMe@lemmy.world 34 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m reminded of Inglorious Basterds, and the carving hobby of Brad Pitt.

However, I’d luuuuv to go all Bear Jew on a ‘bag of Cheetos’.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

That one’s coming down on Lansdowne Street!

[–] Cornelius_Wangenheim@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

I had a neighbor like that who removed his right after Jan 6. It went right back up in 2024.

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

The stupidity that led him down that path still remains.

[–] shittydwarf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 71 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Trudeau has really risen to the occasion since announcing his resignation

[–] egerlach@lemmy.ca 38 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think Trudeau is best when he gets to lead a country, and not have to deal with politics. I mean, he's not the best policy maker, IMO, but we've had worse PMs. Whenever he has to do "politics" stuff though he's... well, bad.

[–] Tm12@lemmy.ca 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He’s above Harper in my books.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 36 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well yea but that’s a low fuckin’ bar.

[–] Kaput@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Two things I keep in mind from Harper, gutting employment insurance, trying to raise retirement age to 67 oh and the sax serenade to Netanyahu. Make it three

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] Kaput@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

wow, I missed that one.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is it bad that I'm kind of glad not to have come into adulthood until after this guy was gone? Like I feel like from what I've heard, if heard it now from a prime minister, I'd probably lose my fucking mind.

But who knows, maybe we'll see a 2.0 in a couple months and all get to experience an exceptionally bad PM (hopefully not).

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

No, that makes sense. I just missed him aswell/only had a couple years of it and it’s definitely nice to be able to look back on it instead of live it.

And yea, PP was his right-hand guy or whatever during that time and has always been a real douche. He didn’t grow into a conservative, he’s always been that guy. Sequels are so often clunkier exaggerations to capitalize off previous success, instead of doing their own things, and if PP gets in that’s what we’re gunna be dealing with.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He's always handled good under pressure. Is argue he was also the best we could have gotten during the pandemic and I'm saying this as someone who was equally happy with Ford during the pandemic and also happy with Ford during this tarriff bullshit. Ford can suck a massive bag of dicks but I can't hate him on his response for this.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

Imo, Ford fucked the pandemic response. He turned down billions from the feds. Hospitals had to do temp shutdowns. Took too long to do anything about the clownvoy. The only reason more ontarians didn't die is because of the federal health minister

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 47 points 2 weeks ago

Now, that's the reaction I'd expect. Go Canada and lets connect with EU instead.

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 30 points 2 weeks ago

Krasnov Trump is working for Putin. What were you expecting?

[–] meldrik@lemmy.wtf 30 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I wish I also could say Trump is dumb on national television.

[–] Moose@moose.best 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't think he actually said that though, the only quote I saw that included the word dumb was "It's not in my habit to agree with The Wall Street Journal. Donald, they point out that even though you're a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do".

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes. He heaped praise and then separated the dumb actions from the 'smart' person. This is how a parent could talk to a child.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Justin Trudeau was a schoolteacher before he was a politician.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 1 points 2 weeks ago

Go ahead then

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 25 points 2 weeks ago

Gotta tell ya, the phrase “America’s growing tensions with Canada” was not a headline I thought I would ever see.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Donald, they point out that even though you are a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do.

Fuck we're getting invaded.

[–] Grabthar@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

You're with WSJ? Yeah, you're fucked.

[–] Punchshark@lemmy.ca 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

rump and his supporters are beyond very dumb! History will use the term maga in the future to describe the ultra dumb!

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

rump, of course. I refer to him as dumps, but rump is perfect. much more efficient. thanks.

[–] Gloomy@mander.xyz 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Is it just me or did he use more simple words when addressing "Donald"?

[–] djsp@feddit.org 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Trudeau did adopt some of Trump's lingo when addressing him –by his forename, as you point out–, using "big" several times and referring to some treaty they negotiated as a "deal". He also slowed down, as if talking to someone with impaired understanding. Finally, Trudeau delivered this gem:

Now, it's not in my habit to agree with the Wall Street Journal, but Donald, they point out that, even though you're a very smart guy, this is a very dumb thing to do.

— starting at 10:34 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eT_ePmJyIcw

It was brilliant; out in plain sight for anyone with mild linguistic skills yet too subtle for the Trump base to grasp any of it.

[–] NotLemming@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago

I thought the same. He was subtly talking down to him, even while complementing him. He should have done a subtle hand thing, from back when Trump bullied the disabled guy and then denied it.

Vance sees insults everywhere, so I wonder if he caught it.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Does Trump think Canadian Bacon was a documentary?? How is he this stupid??

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I doubt he's even heard of it. Probably thinks that's just Kevin Bacon's cousin.

[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Justin is the most handsome president. Canada is so Lucky. We get donal piece of dog shit ruzzian asset tax evader nazi pedo asshole sonobabich draft evading dementia patient rapist felon trumpfus.

Somehow our founding fathers didn't foresee a need to call for a recall. That's fucked up. We have to deal with this orange was of shit for 4 years without the possibility of recalling him with a majority vote or something.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

He's our Prime Minister. Our President is the guy who chooses what gets sold under the store brand at Loblaw's.

[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Lol! He's still a handsome guy. Looking forward to $10/gal gas. That's gonna hurt really badly.
