Aaaand it's gone, and I've been banned from the sub.

got 80,000 views and 1300 upvotes before is disappeared though, so I see that as a win, I'm sure a few people signed up.

[–] Blaze@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Those mods are really something. I'm going to post this to !buyeuropean@feddit.uk

[–] AnonomousWolf@lemm.ee 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I was spamming that sub quite a bit to help guide people to lemmy. But a warning would have been appropriate, not a ban and removal of my post.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

not a ban and removal of my post.

You're luckly it's not a perma ban. That happened to me after I posted an article the mods didn't like.

Oof, are we not on good terms with the mods of r/BuyfromEU?

Oh dear. So, in summary:

  • r/BuyFromEU and [!buyfromeu@feddit.org](/c/buyfromeu@feddit.org): Not friends.
  • r/Buy_European and !buyeuropean@feddit.uk: Friends?

Seems like it 🤷‍♂️

I wish they would communicate, we're part of the same movement

Sometimes reading the comments is really depressing... But hey, I tried to contribute a little by leaving some hopefully-helpful replies.

[–] index@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Most people only switch and change because of the trends and not so much because they understand how lemmy is good and why it will benefit them in the long run. People even get angry when you suggest to spend 5 minutes to learn the basics claiming it's not user friendly. Among all the things that may contribute to this i think people are too used to get products showed in their face.

[–] gon@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

It's frustrating and annoying... But well, I guess it's worth it to push a little.

[–] JayGray91@fedia.io 7 points 1 week ago

in a sense I get then though. it's like they're getting preached on. nobody lines that, right?

I myself gave threadiverse another chance on my own volition and learned on my own.

so it might take some time for others to try it give a second chance

Top highly upvoted comment saying you need different accounts for each instance 🤦🏻

Time to jump into the fray I guess

[–] kernelle@0d.gs 22 points 1 week ago (2 children)

"Everyone says you can use any instance with any account so I tried logging in with instance A account on instance B and it doesn't even work."

Words like decentralized, interoperability or federated doesn't mean anything to these people. We need good infographics to convey the idea correctly without misunderstandings.

People are staying away from Lemmy because they don't understand why its different from classic social media. From the outside they see many divided platforms instead of the unifying it's actually doing.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 5 points 1 week ago

I agree totally. I think people benefit of think of their instance as the window through which they view the rest of the Fediverse.

[–] TipsyMcGee@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Honestly, I almost thought it was a little daunting to set up this account – and I had already used Lemmy with another account on the same instance previously. I'm still not fully content with the mix of content I'm getting here (where are the text active only coms?)

Some hand holding is needed for non tech savvy people. And sometimes the similarities to reddit is kind of like faux meat substitutes – inviting unfavorable comparisons.

[–] kernelle@0d.gs 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

For sure, and I genuinely don't blame anyone. I've spoken a few times about the difficulty of marketing federated social media.

Also, this place feels like exactly like early Reddit, tech savvy, close-nit, united but also divided. Lemmy will get bigger, diversifying the platform, increasing it's likeability for a wider audience.

That's very true – and a cool thing about Lemmy. I both hope that you're right that people will catch on and that it will retain a bit of that magic.

If there ever where a time for federated social media to catch on, I reckon it is now. Billionaire owned surveillance capitalism ought to be due for a backlash about now. And if not now, then I wonder if it ever will be.

[–] kernelle@0d.gs 3 points 1 week ago

I agree, and the inevitable enshittification is what brings people here. I've been here for about two years and people show no sign of leaving. Lemmy server v1.0 release on the horizon too.

Steady growth here, capitalizing on the inevitable fuckups and people will eventually see no value in Reddit.

[–] AnonomousWolf@lemm.ee 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sadly yes, but they've been helped to see the light.

Let's keep guiding new users.

[–] Kirk@startrek.website 6 points 1 week ago

Yes was happy to see their edit

[–] gon@lemm.ee 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I do believe the link is wrong? Shouldn't it be old.reddit.com not www.old.reddit.com?

[–] AnonomousWolf@lemm.ee 13 points 1 week ago

Thanks I fixed it

I like how the top comment is someone who clearly doesn’t understand lemmy.

[–] asudox@lemmy.asudox.dev 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

How did the first guy even think that people would actually use Lemmy if you needed to create a new account in each instance for each comm?

[–] AnonomousWolf@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

That's the thing, people don't think before commenting.

[–] index@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Where have people advocating for everything in one sub been in the past decade? Single subs and centralization have been a problem on reddit since the beginning

[–] cyrano@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Since ~~Digg stumble delicious fark~~ aol

[–] SomethingBlack@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Not from this post obviously, but I'm a newbie from Reddit and excited for what Lemmy has to offer

[–] gigachad@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Here people will interact with most of your comments and they won't disappear in the void. Welcome to Lemmy!

[–] SomethingBlack@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I have definitely found that to be the case. It helps to sort by new too 😅
