Dude... I've spent way too long creating an account, verifying my mail accepting conditions finding products and trying to understand the German text and then at checkout I get

Lieferungen in das europäische Ausland sind nicht möglich. Bitte wähle eine gültige Lieferanschrift.

(Deliveries to other European countries are not possible. Please select a valid delivery address.)

Beh.. that sucks hard.

When I buy from shops abroad it is the first info I search. It is awful if that info is basically hidden deep under 1000 links.

As a workaround you probably could use a parcel forwarding service:

https://www.forward2me.com/

https://shipgerman.com/en/

https://www.no-border.eu/

I have no experience with these providers, but I've used similar services in the past and had good experiences for the most part.

But yeah, it really sucks that they aren't able to ship to other EU countries, while other shops can.

It is what it is... But when someone posts a link to them and said that they ship worldwide, i get frustrated to find out that they dont even ship internationaly

You are Right, I remembered that wrong. My apologies! Sorry you wasted time 🙁

For those of you searching for an alternative in different countries of Europe, you may have a look at this thread: https://sopuli.xyz/post/23555632

Germany: Otto.de

Belgium / Netherlands / Luxemburg: Bol.com

Romania: eMag.ro

France: cDiscount.com, Galaxus.fr

Poland: Allegro.pl

Switzerland: Galaxus.ch

If you know further all-purpose shops, feel free to add them.

AFAIK Galaxus just stocks or orders from other shops but at the end of the day you are just choosing European logistics not necessarily European products.

I guess the same is true for the other alternatives.

You should mention that Otto is a German alternative FOR Germany. Otto does not deliver abroad. Otherwise you'll just end up leaving people disappointed.

Actually we've been able to order from Otto in The Netherlands for years.

[–] RambaZamba@feddit.org 3 points 5 days ago

Yeah the Otto FAQs are kind of funny.. if you are on Otto.de it says:

"Does Otto also deliver abroad?" "No, we only deliver to locations within Germany."

On Otto.at: "No, we only deliver to locations within Austria."

And so on.. so I have to correct myself: If your country has its own Otto domain / Otto shop in your language, you surely can order there from your country 😌

Cool blue and kaufland too

A friend ordered stuff from there when it was reduced. It broke quickly though, so he wanted to have it replaced. Otto outright refused to handle it as a replacement, insisting on him getting his money back instead so he would have to pay the full price to order it again if he wanted a working version. It went so far that he contacted a lawyer about it who confirmed that Otto broke the according consumer law but that handling it via lawyers would be more expensive than just buying it for the full price.

Would never order something from them. Please do if you want to get screwed over.

Otto would be a great alternative, if they ever started to take customer service seriously.

[–] Muscle_Meteor@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Then it would cease to be German.

(I live in Germany and have been using Otto)

I was pleasantly surprised. I test-ordered something from Otto the day before yesterday. My last order was maybe four years ago. I wasn't forced to use PayPal, but got a bill with a QR code, they delivered via DHL and it arrived yesterday. Very satisfying experience, though I know I was lucky, as it was a marketplace order (and got me a 27% discount). Otto itself owns and therefore uses horrible Hermes.

Added to the shop list!

Weren't they about to go bankrupt last year? Did they recover?
