That's weird, as the developer stated they had no plans for post-release content & were only focused on the sequel, which has since been officially greenlit.

Maybe the publisher wanted to push it onto some other team?
Anything that keeps JKR from getting richer, is a good thing.
And I'd celebrate this if wasn't for the fact that they've stated:
The company said it plans to double down on its biggest franchises, including Harry Potter.
Moar mobile slop and legos.
Art versus artist. Some of us what as much of the wizarding world as we can get.
Art vs artist doesn't apply when the artist is making bank off their art.
A better example would be something like Notch and Minecraft. Notch made Minecraft, Notch sucks, but he sold it and makes no money off it anymore so who cares if he's the worst. JKR is a different story, and every new Harry Potter thing supports JKR.
I'm not sure Microsoft is any better when it comes to your Minecraft dollars...
Sorry, Microsoft might make crappy software, but they aren't actively trying to invalidate my existence as a person. Absolutely not comparable.
It's not the start menu or the control panel I'm talking about, but things like being in bed with the IDF post October 2023.
I didn't mean to set up a comparison or minimize anything, so I apologize. Notch is a total piece of shit. Companies that enable systems of oppression are shitty and I don't want to see them enable your oppressors once the price is right.
Basically all megacorporations do that to everyone. Treating humans as just another sort of capital is a basic part of their existence. Doesn't mean you should ignore the problems of funding these people.
man you really must not consume much art at all
I prefer to stick to uncontroversial works made by politically conscious creators, like H.P. Lovecraft!
But no, I get it. I like art made by people who are or weren't great. And that's before considering my participation in the vast system of capitalism which necessarily involves systemic evils far beyond what JKR personally is capable of.
It just hurts to have a person who is loudly transphobic like JKR, who uses all support of her IP as support of her views, and then all the majority of society has to say is "I love HP tho". It hurts especially when society is increasingly hostile towards trans people right now.
Bet he has shares and investments on $MSFT
Anyone can have shares of anything, so that's kind of moot. Even if suddenly Minecraft stopped making money, it would not affect Notch in the least. From what I can tell he might kind of like it, he seems to be kind of bitter about it. Though who knows what's legit and what's a grift at this point.
Then don't buy anything. In the meantime I'll keep pursuing more of a franchise that I love, especially when HL is the only good thing we've had in quite some time.
There's no ethical consumption under capitalism. And it's not like HL was handmade by JKR herself, there were plenty of people working on it who I'm sure aren't transphobic and whose livelihoods are connected to the franchise as a result, some of whom are probably trans themselves.
The "separate the art from the artist" argument just always rings a little hollow to me. I tend to be put off when people cling to a franchise that is owned by a person who profits off hateful rhetoric and contributing to an unsafe environment for us. It feels like continuing to enjoy her art continues to platform her hate and shows people that being transphobic not only isn't a deal breaker, it's acceptable and profitable.
JK Rowling is a transphobe, a bigot and a fascist.
One of the main storyline NPCs is a well thought out and respected trans individual. Jk rowling specifically tried to tank sales of the game, there are two ways licensing can be done, a one-time upfront fee, or residuals. Her behavior suggests it was the former, though no one has specified that I know of.
Either way, us buying and playing the game is against J.K. Rowlings wishes, good enough for me. And I really enjoyed the game. It was well made if a bit generic, similar to the more recent Avowed, I enjoyed that too. Well-made, fun game, but a bit generic in some aspects.
I also played both in VR once VR mods were available. Hogwarts legacy is great in VR(specifically with Luke Ross's mod, if you haven't tried it recently it has made some significant strides in the past few months) Avowed in VR takes alot of hardware to run well(UEVR mod), my hardware was just below that line. Still worth it for me, but not as great of an experience.

Seems like they put about as much thought into the naming as the JKR put into naming a lot of her non-white characters...
Is Sirona Ryan a reference to something that I don't know?
"Sir"ona Ryan, is what people speculate.
Oh.... ok... I guess if they really want to invalidate the efforts that were actually gone to so they can keep justifying not playing it. They can ignore that the character is well written and just prominent enough to not feel forced, but you aren't gonna miss it either.
Yeah I think it's a bit of a stretch. Though some people claim that because she's not explicitly called trans in the game, she isn't trans. Though that debate is mostly held in the dark depths of the Steam discussions.
Yeah, the fact that it's not even directly brought up, just strongly alluded to and tangentially referenced is part of what makes it such a good representation. It's not an important aspect of the character, or relevant to the story. It's just normal. It feels the same as hanging out with your real life trans friends, they don't all stand around talking about what gender they are, despite some people seeming to picture it that way, hehe.
Too bad ! I really love this game
Good. Fuck JKR.
They have a new quidditch game in the works still.
A new one as in not the one the came out already?
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2878600/Harry_Potter_Quidditch_Champions/
They released that months ago I thought.
Lets go! Down with the terf getting the royalties!
it's so weird i never heard anything about this game after the first week when they paid a bunch of streamers to play it
shame that game was pretty fun until you beat the main quest line
The game was generic open world wank anyway.
