Went out with Miniest today and she accidentally left her phone on the bus. That's what I reckon anyway after I tracked it via "find my phone" and figured it was basically following the 513/514 bus route to Greensborough. Interesting seeing it moving around. Have secured it remotely, but luckily it's a dirt cheap ZTE Optus prepaid phone and not something more expensive, why would anyone steal it lol. That's why you don't give your kids an expensive phone. She's pretty upset but I'm like hey we'll call lost property tomorrow, nothing we can do right now. It's a good lesson to you to be more careful with things. Luckily it's not an expensive lesson. She's got the same haphazard mercurial nature as her father, but she's a better learner! Elder's like me, checks things several times and then checks again. There comes a time when I have to say to myself, "Right, I've got my keys, I've got my phone, I've got my purse" in order to break the cycle of obsessive checking.

The weather has definitely turned, Miss Meow is back to curling in her basket.

28/29 next weekend. Last gasp of summer I reckon.

Coming down with a sore throat. This is a big week trying to cram in the assignments that I procrastinated on last week. Hoping it doesn't get worse. I already don't feel capable of writing anything in my normal state

I'm having a bit of a hunt around the house for stray micro SD cards. I got one of those Anbernic Gameboy SP style handhelds and I heard the SD cards they ship with aren't great.

No luck finding one so far, which is to be expected, but I've ordered one anyway. No analogue sticks on this thing so it will just be retro 2D games.

The ROMs it shipped with have been decent and in English. Only one hasn't worked but I'll swap it out anyway.

I also have the RG35XX-SP, I have come to prefer the custom firmware MuOS which has an image for each Anbernic RGXX handheld. They have decent themes.

Scrappy is a great MuOS app that gets all the box-art images, all you need is a free ScreenScraper account user/password.

Depending on the size of your TF (microSD), there are rom sets on archive.org, like Tiny Best Set Go! & Done Set, I just downloaded the RetroAcheivements set from Archive which has a 128gb & 256gb option. RetroAcheivements is a cross-platform account you can get pop-up acheivements for most retro games when Wi-Fi is on.

The Anbernic devices normally come with the Kioxia TF cards which aren't as brittle as the no name ones, however the roms that Anbernic are sending pre-installed seem to have the biggest Nintendo games ommited. I just got my 4th Anbernic delivered yesterday. MuOS handles dual TF cards well, it's common to have TF1 for just the OS & TF2 for the games/saves.

I predominantly play RomHacks, Super MarioMon (GBA) by Alphard just came out the other day. Pokemon Unbound is great too.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 2 points 13 hours ago

This is the sort of deep level tinkering I want to do, thanks for the guidance on this. Even though I have some ROMs myself, they're probably nowhere near as well organised as anything like that on Archive. And I'd like to explore the other OSes as well, because the default is adequate but could easily be better

I wish my stomach wasn’t such a jerk. Some potato leek soup would be great about now

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

so many hugs

have what you can 😊 toast is always good to eat with other food as the carbon absorbs any bad elements and is very settling

it's oodie season

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 9 points 1 day ago

It is really ruff out there today.

Haven't seen it like that in a while.

Snuggle in bed time lol

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 6 points 1 day ago

Ugh. Melbcat and I both took painkillers and spent the day in bed. I'm feeling sick and the pain has been unreal.

Just got back from the Seymour farm expo so the boys could see 'Daddy work'. They enjoyed climbing on all the tractors and lawnmowers, and looking at the animals

Did not make it back home before the rain. Washing now in dryer - boo.

Multifunction flowers. Happy Birthday me, and Vale Madame. It will be an odd day.

Not a secret any more ... Vale Kerry Greenwood OAM

lego flowers

[–] StartWin@reddthat.com 3 points 1 day ago

Oh no! Kerry Greenwood read my self published novel a few years back and said some very nice things and even let me quote her. Rereading her emails had been a great boost in confidence as I struggled with writing more things. And she was very kind (and funny) in the small exchange we had. I had planned on sending her the sequel at the end of this year. This is very sad news. Condolences to you and hers.

My Opa caught a black rat with the trap he uses for Indian Mynas πŸ˜‚

cute!

I gave it some grape stalks lol. Of course it is a pest so he's gonna gas it with the car exhaust tomorrow. Sad but necessary. I told him to wear gloves and whatnot, zoonotic diseases and all that. I hate how cute it is though. I quadruple checked it wasn't a bush rat - the tail length gives it away.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yup! Long black rat tail - their tails are longer than the length of their body.

Bush rats have rather short tails, you can see in these pics how short it is compared to the body of the bush rat

native Bush Rats

Different species too, but same genus: Rattus fuscipes. Native to Australia.

The black rat, Rattus rattus is, obviously, introduced/a pest species. Same with the Norway rat Rattus norvegicus

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

aw, the aussie rat is such a cutie

What do people call $2 shops these days? Seeing as that doesn’t really apply anymore. You know the ones I mean, they have gift wrap, plastic tubs, party goods, little ornaments, random stuff and there’s at least one in every suburb. The Bunnings of the people.

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 4 points 1 day ago

Still $2 shop.

There is one in Fairfield called Crazy Price Everything and I'd love to use that name for all of them

Done my market run

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have packed another box.

I really don't like this whole packing thing. Why have we not yet invented teleportation so I can just beam it all over as is?

PSA: new way for manufacturers to skive on what they sell. Just did a load of washing with a new bottle of laundry liquid. Clear bottle that was full to the top. Undid the top, and the vacuum released and the level of laundry liquid in the bottle dropped by about 2-3 cm. They'd squeezed the bottle when filling it to make it look a lot fuller than it was. Didn't think to measure the amount of liquid but will next time.

The fingerless gloves are out. I'm listening to some Burt Bacharach to keep me in a happy, chilled mood while I sit at the computer willing myself to get going on some very simple, brainless stuff for uni.

How was I today years old when I learned that one of my favourite RΓΆyksopp tracks ("So Easy"), the first track from their seminal debut album, was a freaking BURT BACHARACH sample ("Blue So Blue"). Anyway. Onwards with the day... if I can get this super basic thing done, I will have chalked up a win!

Going across town to see my nan and opa today. They're getting older and it's lowkey freaking me out, so I'm trying to visit more often 😬 it's just a small gathering; myself, them, dad, maybe my uncle - so it will be nice πŸ₯°

Dad also found some old photos, about 10, in his wardrobe. Ones he hid and saved from mums rampages. He sent them to me and now I have a real nice collection of memories!

There's a number of them where I'm just a wee baby and mum is holding me. It's crazy to think she was just 19-20yo and I'm now way older than that. She was my age when I was 12-13. I can't imagine having a young teen child myself at my age.
