This isn't just a Trump thing either.
George W. Bush and his cronies attacked Canada when Canada refused to join the second adventure in Iraq. Canada sent troops to Afghanistan, but said it would only go into Iraq if the UN inspectors actually found weapons of mass destruction, which they never did. In response to that the Bush Admin said "you're either with us or you're with the terrists". Americans started boycotting Canadian things, etc. The "Freedom Fries" incident was more well known internationally, but Canadians who were around for those Bush years still remember that first betrayal.
Then Trump was president, and he trashed Canada and imposed reckless tariffs. Ok. Canadians understand about gerrymandering, the electoral college, and how Clinton actually won more votes. It wasn't the majority of Americans that were voting Trump into office.
Then Trump tried to overthrow the government in a coup. Finally a chance to set things right. But no, nothing happend.
And then in 2024, US voters made their preferences clear, electing Trump again with a clear majority this time, and giving him a majority in the House and Senate.
So, now it's clear. This is who the US is now. The US is not a reliable ally. Even if another Obama or Biden gets elected next time, it's just a matter of a few years before the US chooses another fucking Republican who will shit all over Canada again.
There's an old saying in Canada that says, 'Fool me once, shame on...shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again.'
