They won't stop unless someone makes them stop. That's how movements like this work, every single time. They never wind down on their own. They have to constantly keep increasing the cruelty and extremism, or else their base will see weakness and abandon them. However bad you think it is now, it's only going to get worse, unless someone puts an end to it. Historically, there are only a few ways a fascist movement has ever been stopped, and none of them are pretty.

Generally, things chug along getting worse and worse, until suddenly we reach a tipping point. Then something happens, often small and innocuous, and it tips. Then there's no stopping it.
The Berlin Wall came down when a single guard decided on his own that he wasn't going to stop the growing crowd that appeared after an East German government official accidentally declared at a press conference that they would finally allow emigration, following increasingly large protests. When the world woke up that morning, NOBODY knew this would happen that day. Not a single intelligence agency anywhere on the planet predicted it. It totally surprised the entire world.
Its likely that protests and outrage in America will grow, even among disgruntled MAGAs, and one day, its just going explode, probably over something fairly small. The fuse has already been lit.

I have been unable to convince my spouse despite 9 years of trying. Really sad because we had two good options but chose to stick it out because of family (I say to hell with them but don't have a veto proof majority there).

This is unbelievable, I could be deported. Me and my Dad were born on a military base, but that will not matter or my Grandpa was a respected general. My name isn't English, tattoos, but I'm white and don't know Spanish. El Salvador will be a death sentence in more than one way.
Like I'm telling the few people I have and it's being downplayed, "that won't happen", " or "stay off the news and go have fun, you're stressing out". Like no, I'm gearing up for whatever comes, plan A to Z. I will NOT be torn away what I built for my family or my kids future.
Time to buy a gun. The left needs to arm themselves fuckin' yesterday.
Don't think that they won't come for you. The law is powerless to protect you from having your rights trampled on under this administration. All it takes is for King Trump to declare you a gang member and they have carte blanche authority to disappear you off the street.

No, he's not worried. And he has good reason not to be. He knows history. Obama didn't hold the Bush administration officials responsible for their crimes. In fact, he happily kept using many of those illegal powers himself. And Biden didn't hold the first Trump administration accountable for their crimes.
Liberal Democrats have a core character flaw. They don't like confrontation. It's the same impulse that causes them to reflexively seek out compromise with Republicans at every turn. They have this narcissistic trait that makes them think they can achieve their place in history by being a grand peacemaker. They always seek reconciliation without accountability.
I guarantee you, if another centrist Dem manages to win in 2028, their very first official act will be to come before the nation, try to be the grand peacemaker, and announce, "it is time for the nation to move on, all is forgiven!"
They can't help themselves. They're cowards to their core.

I suspected about two weeks ago that I would, at some point, be a likely candidate for being sent to CECOT on the basis of daring to be transgender, and this is only more supporting evidence that it’s gonna happen.
Unfortunately you’re absolutely correct to be worried about this. Part of Project 2025 is the criminalization of Transgendered people under the rubric that they are inherently “pornographic”.
