Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Be careful with pouring oil down your pipes, it might lead to either getting your oil pipes invaded by the US military on the basis of "potential weapons of mass destruction", or the CIA to overthrow its democratically elected leader to be replaced with a fascist dictator willing to sell the oil to the US.

[–] TimeNaan@lemmy.world 63 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That's how you get clogged pipes.

[–] Zero22xx@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, best to use paper towels to soak up as much as possible and throw in the trash.

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 days ago

I pour it into an empty can from the recycling and then throw that out.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 33 points 6 days ago (2 children)

all the people in the comments thinking this is some serious advice and isn't just a silly character doing an objectively bad thing because it's funny 😭

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I'm imagining a small glass bowl in the sink drain. Allow me the fantasy for this weeb meme lmao

IT STILL HURTS

[–] Draconic_NEO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago

I just noticed a lil lizard on the wall in the background, cute.

Also yeah don't pour oil down the drain it can cause clogs and it can ruin your pipes, especially if it's hot.

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 43 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That kitchen is a shitshow. Also: not down the drain! This is how you get "fatbergs" that will cause sewage to back up into your house. T-shirt should say "save the pipes!"

into bottles and then put bottles into regular trash, there are also companies that recycle oil into biodiesel but i dont think they take regular consumer oil unfortunately

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Like general_kitten@sopuli.xyz said, into bottles and recycle if you can. I've also had good results with:

  • paper towels - this can take a lot, so reserve those mostly clean ones in a bag/bucket for later use
  • sawdust in a small bucket that I keep in the garage - dump it into a trash bag and throw out once saturated
  • Japanese cooking oil solidifier - this stuff is incredible and turns oil into a paste that is easier to throw out

Out of the window of course. Where else would you want?

It goes straight to earth again and sometimes if someone is lucky it will nourish their hair

somewhere you don't like's drains.

Contact your city or locality, many will take oil at a recycling center and send it on its way. Anything you can't funnel into a container for recycling, scrape into the trash.

[–] jia_tan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 25 points 6 days ago (3 children)

They won’t steal MY username… 😊

[–] HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I have this compression software I need help maintaining, do you have time to help?

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] fossphi@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

On lemmy? Nah

Or maybe this is another case of xkcd-2501

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 2 points 4 days ago

On lemmy? Nah

You're probably right. In sense I relate to that xkcd comic, but in reverse because of my poor memory, that's really why I linked the XZ-utils backdoor case, as I had almost forgotten all the surrounding details.

[–] jia_tan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 6 days ago

Sure thing! I am known for my regular, high quality and secure contributions to open source projects!

[–] KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml 16 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Dont do this. This is how your sewer bill quadruples.

Instead, ask your local authority if they recycle Waste Cooking Oils and Fats. They can be used to make soaps, cosmetics, and biofuels.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 10 points 6 days ago

I assumed this was just a way to get back at the landlord

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (4 children)

My mom always poured used oil into empty cans (such as from canned beans or whatever). I never figured out what she did with them after.

[–] KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml 5 points 6 days ago

You can also throw them out in the landfill.

The humble curbside compost pickup:

[–] bonsai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 6 days ago

Great advice if you're renting and your landlord's a dick 🥰

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

What is the point of this picture? Promote misinformation?

I do like the picture of the apple with 🚫, even though I don't understand that either.

[–] will_steal_your_username@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I found it funny that she's pouring the oil down the drain. I assumed the messy apartment is to further show that this character is a bit of a mess. As for the meat part I dunno

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 days ago

Heh I guess instead of humor I get ptsd

Use less oil ffs!! Or is this some special recipe where you boil stuff in oil?

[–] WolfLink@sh.itjust.works 39 points 6 days ago (1 children)

some special recipe where you boil stuff in oil

This is called “frying”

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

When I fry I don't use much oil. 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–] filcuk@lemmy.zip 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Depends on what we're frying. If it's breaded chicken, too little oil will result in uneven browning. Little to no oil on many veggies will cause parts to be burned whilst the rest is still raw.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I beg to disagree, at least the breadcrumbed chicken! I do not use excessive heat though, and turning gently every minute or two or so Guess it all depends on your type of cooking, veggies goes in water for me for example.

[–] filcuk@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

Well, those are boiled veggies, sure. I'm not using oil when steaming either, so that not very relevant. That said, I'm pretty sure you do get better results with oil (surface layer, not a pool) when baking veggies.
But this is science and I'm definitely no expert!

Is she Holo the wise wolf?

[–] will_steal_your_username@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

She looks similar, so maybe! I'm not cultured enough to know that many animes 😔

[–] Ze_Rosie_Ro@lemmy.cafe 3 points 4 days ago

Looking at the picture again, it absolutely has to be because of the Apple sign in the background. There’s an episode where she eats so many apples she makes herself sick lol

[–] jbk@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 6 days ago

is she a doctor lmao

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

[–] jabathekek@sopuli.xyz 5 points 6 days ago

i like to smother the macerated remains of plants in the blood of the same plants. big yummy.
