More Gothic Goths!

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 78 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I mean, if someone shows up to a goth party in chainmail, they'd probably still fit the vibe?

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Was gonna say, every single one of the Goth kids I grew up around would have absolutely loved that.

Most people don’t understand the difference between Visigoth and gothic. It leads to an interesting “goth” scene.

Yeah, there would be no disconnect here, goth subculture is pretty broad and in any case it's super inclusive and just fun as shit. They would get a kick out of this.

Can verify — I'm quite fond of wearing chainmail belted with an under bust corset. I always feel like I'm a celebrity or something when I wear it

When you get accused of "Vandalism" despite never having participated in a single raid against the Roman frontier

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And you're not even a Vandal.

[–] Barbarian@sh.itjust.works 28 points 3 days ago

Visigoth, Vandal, what's the difference? They still can't speak proper latin. Every time they open their mouths, all I hear is "Barbar, barbarbar!"

Next time you see goths out ask them “visi or ostro?”.

Actually I saw a few out the other night and they were pretty high effort, like the early post-punk goth scene had gone to Japan and mutated and then come back to the West with extra Final Fantasy flair.

I dunno, the one on the right looks pretty chilly.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 11 points 3 days ago

In a room that crowded? I doubt it. The one on the left though is gonna want some fresh air and a margarita.

Visi goths? Why the past tense?

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 9 points 3 days ago

I would. Goths, Suevi, Vandals, Huns, Avar, Bulgar - all welcome

Didn't the Germanic tribes fight largely without armor, or very little? A lot of them were shirtless, unless I'm confusing someone. But they also died easily. Weird.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Early Germanic tribes fought largely without armor, but in the 4th, 5th, and 6th centuries AD, increasingly fought armored.
