Original Post:

Am I supposed to be excited? How bad must your resturant be running if the best you've got to offer is your excess ice.

Update:

Some of you have expressed criticism of how I've framed this. You guys are right. I'm fuckin losing it.

I think I've been spending too much time reading news, seeing dead babies, Názis taking over the country, the cIimate crisis etc.. I'm not being sarcastic, I think this shit has fucked me up. I'm at the point where seeing a sign for lce is perceived as bleak doom.

I need to take a break from, everything. Thank you for holding up the mirror.

Company with ice machine who sells things also sells ice... woe is the current state of society!

I don't know who downvoted you, but you're right. I've edited the OP.

Glad the reality check had a positive affect. We're all having a rough time right now so I get your state of mind.

That's not a promotion, just a thing they're selling for the summer season. Damn convenient too IMO

Perhaps I've become too cynical.

It's all about add on sales. If you go in and buy just a burger, even at the prices today they're likely losing money from that sale. They want you to buy sides or a drink, and if it's a spot where people are ordering meals for a game or event ice is a quick way to make more money. All it takes is a sign placement, and if they don't know you have ice, they aren't going to order any.

Yeah that's fair

I live in Minnesota and these signs show up in the drive thru of our local BK every summer and disappear every winter. I don’t think it’s any kind of special promotion, probably just an additional revenue stream.

The fountain machines typically have a bunch of ice in the hopper already, I’m guessing any bagged ice they sell is probably pretty high margin and not frequent enough to interfere with the primary business.

Not uncommon to do during heat waves or summer events. Can be cheaper than buying it from a grocery store

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

Shit ice goes for $5-6 a bag here, that'd be a heck of a deal.

Sonic sells ice too. I think they do it every summer. Can top off your cooler while picking up food.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Depending on the size of the bag, that might not be a bad deal.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 2 points 10 hours ago

1 ice please

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

When they did it last summer, I asked how much ice for $2 and was told about 2lbs. It's only enough for a 6 pack cooler

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 4 points 23 hours ago

2lbs?!? LMFAO

[–] sprite0@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago

i get mine from mcdonald's! you fill the coolers at the store and then the last place you hit on your way out of town for camping or the beach is the cheap ice to top off the coolers.

it's always been cheaper than the bagged ice at the gas station or grocery store where i live.

In Australia most petrol stations and liquor stores sell ice in 5 kg bags. I'm not sure if you can even buy it here at Hungry Jack's (the name of the Burger King franchise in Australia).

BK 2-3 years ago had amazing deals and coupons 24/7. Shit had doubled in price or more since then, and the deals are all shit

[–] ohwhatfollyisman@lemmy.world 1 points 21 hours ago

go there with your toddler, buy two bags, and you have your own rap song.

[–] three20three@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

Chick-fil-A sells their ice as well - great for parties.
