I hate the schadenfreude journalism. I will never meet this guy, I don't care how he feels any more than some random South Dakotan. The reason he's relevant is his outsized impact on government and the country, tell me about that.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 41 minutes ago* (last edited 40 minutes ago)

Right. I don’t care much about his alignment or even that he’s come out as a Nazi. While it’s a huge red flag, I guess it’s his preference. The important parts are how he acts on those beliefs, who he hurts and how many, how his actions hurt our society

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 8 points 49 minutes ago (1 children)

Has he tried not being a nazi bastard?

[–] myrrh@ttrpg.network 1 points 24 minutes ago

...maybe he'll do the world a favor and step into an industrial shredder...

(shame about his genetic legacy, but hopefully all their mothers are mostly good people who give them a fighting chance at turning out well)

[–] JigglySackles@lemmy.world 18 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

Wish their stock would plummet 71%

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 6 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I'm waiting for that inevitable margin call. Followed by Twitter being repossessed. At that point it will probably be sold off for parts.

Nvm, some people still talk about stock. Stock price isn't monthly income. Dividends are. And his insane salary.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 4 points 1 hour ago

Stock price is net worth, which is what rich people care about.

Monthly income can just come tax-free in the form of low interest loans against the value of the stock.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 0 points 45 minutes ago

Since we’re talking stock value here …. I don’t believe he actually does have an insane salary. It’s all stock

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 16 points 1 hour ago

He got what he wanted. He wants to bow out before the blowback. Do not trust anything this fascist says.

[–] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 57 points 2 hours ago (3 children)

he's depressed because as a millionaire he made slightly less money

i'm depressed because i'm queer and autistic and a rich evil fuck in government is killing queer helplines and putting autistic people on kill lists.

we are not the same

[–] blank_the_blank@lemmy.world 8 points 1 hour ago

He ain't even depressed, it's just an act, like him ever being a Democrat.

[–] xnavy@lemm.ee 12 points 1 hour ago

*billionaire

[–] uis@lemm.ee 3 points 1 hour ago (3 children)

I knew Elmo is rich, but is he autistic?

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

He said he was when he hosted SNL

[–] viking@infosec.pub 4 points 1 hour ago

Not sure that's officially been diagnosed, but he sure acts like it.

[–] Absaroka@lemmy.world 8 points 1 hour ago

Not sure what he thought would happen when an electric car manufacturer aligned with the "we love fossil fuels" party.

Saw a great take earlier on another website.

The guy who said he was going to "cure us of the woke mind virus" is now saying he's getting out of politics because "people were being mean to him."

The irony.

[–] darthelmet@lemmy.world 3 points 22 minutes ago

I’m finding this funny/interesting. Because normally I think consumption boycotts don’t really work that well as a strategy since it takes a lot of people not buying the thing to affect big companies and big companies tend to have so many products people need that it can be hard for a lot of people to completely avoid them.

But Tesla is in a uniquely terrible position for withstanding such a boycott. They sell one big ticket product market substitutes and its success depends almost entirely on its brand. They’re status symbols. They’re virtue signals for climate consciousness. (without you know, actually supporting real solutions like mass transit) And before people noticed how much of a shitbag Musk was, they were associated with his cool Tony Stark tech persona.

Then Musk put himself into a position where anyone who was able to ignore his nonsense before definitely couldn’t now. So this company that was almost entirely dependent on people liking Musk enough to think the cars were cool now loses most of that market appeal.

From community description:

Are you sure this one fits in? Why, of all the communities, choose this one specifically?

Fantastic news

The weird thing is that this weirdo has more money than it is even possible for him or us to comprehend.

He could lose 99% of his net worth and still be one of the richest men alive.

[–] nul9o9@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 8 minutes ago* (last edited 8 minutes ago)

Right? If I had a fraction of his wealth. I'd fuck off to Bora Bora or something.

I love that for him <3

[–] squid_slime@lemm.ee 4 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 29 minutes ago) (1 children)

What has he got to worry about, even if his stocks plunged to 0 he would still have a better retirement then the rest of us. Capitalism is a sickness even the capitalist are turned mentally ill by the system.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 50 minutes ago (1 children)

The capitalists have always been mentally ill. This system inevitably promotes narcissists and psychopaths up.

[–] squid_slime@lemm.ee 1 points 27 minutes ago (1 children)

And we should seek to create a society where these people can self correct. Become empathetic.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 18 minutes ago

“Self correct” That’s not how mental illness works. What we can do is build a better society that focuses on collective good and doesn’t promote malignant people into leadership.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 10 points 2 hours ago (3 children)

If the news could just never pay any attention to that little freak again all would be well in the world. I'd also love it if Lemmy could stop posting stuff about him!

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

I'd rather know what he's up to personally

[–] viking@infosec.pub 1 points 1 hour ago

Some apps offer a keyword filter.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 30 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Hit him right in the wallet. He keeps it in his heart.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 1 points 26 minutes ago

Actually, I'd wager it isn't even about the money. Ffor his reality it's a vague abstract number. He never really has to worry about running out and can live as extravagant of a lifestyle he wants. To the extent the details matter, it's more of a 'high score' than anything that actually materially impacts his life.

The real punch in the gut is that he has gone his entire life with the masses either kissing his ass and worshipping him as the greatest tech guy ever, or people who just don't care about him either way. He of course earned some personal vitriol from people who knew him personally, maybe more than the average but he always felt vindicated by his adoring masses.

Since every random person that he actually ever heard express any opinion put him on the highest of pedastals, then surely every one will be relieved if he forced himself and his ideas over their lives? Suddenly he has to face the judgement of so many mililon people that were previously content to largely ignore the hell out of him. This is probably really hard to cope with after 50 years of unrelenting ass-kissing.

[–] tankplanker@lemmy.world 11 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, this fucks him personally, as so much of his wealth is tied up in Tesla shares. Tanking Tesla directly tanks Elons wealth.

He cannot sell large tracts of shares without further depressing share price and his usual trick of promising random bullshit like self driving taxis or cars that deliver themselves does not work anymore to boost share price before he sells some off.

[–] DicJacobus@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Ketamine wearing off. time for another hit

[–] Lucky_777@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Maybe he'll hit that threshold, and his kids he never sees will get a ton of money. Wouldn't that be something

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 84 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

these contrived reports of him quitting politics or being depressed to try to get some sympathy and stop the stock selling are pathetic. He's never cared about anyone else, even his own children, and he still absolutely does not. He's a spoiled psycopath who thinks he can manipulate people.

[–] Retro_unlimited@lemmy.world 1 points 50 minutes ago

I believe every piece of “news” about him is a self made “press release” that he sent so his name and message can get out. I feel it’s all part of his plan.

Oscar, big cigar, Elon Musk can't sell a car.

[–] SlippiHUD@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

I wonder how many people will have to die for Elon's self driving taxi Hubris in Austin for Texas to pull authorization. As I understand it, the Texas state government hates the City and Its residents. I expect it to be atleast a 9/11s worth.

[–] easily3667@lemmus.org 3 points 2 hours ago
