Be sure to remind them

The key issue is that so many American voters are still not getting it, or Trumps approval ratings were only single digits.

Single digits? Try full in guillotine

If Americans suddenly would be smart enough to see what trump really is, he'd be dead within minutes

The 2024 election saw Trump win 63 percent of rural voters, up from 60 percent in 2020, according to AP VoteCast.

According to the poll, just 46 percent of rural voters now approve of Trump's job performance, while 45 percent disapprove. In February, 59 percent approved and 37 percent disapproved.

That's a pretty significant drop in a little more than a month.

Glad to see some red folks are finally starting to open their eyes.

Until it's election time and they still vote Republican because they are more scared of a Democrat in the Whitehouse than a dictator.

“If Donald is this bad, just imagine how bad it would be with a Democrat!”

...this is why fascists oppress minorities and start wars: as long as they have outsiders to blame for their incompetence, their faithful will rally all the harder...

Gotta admit, I came in here expecting the "total collapse" to be an overhyped 5-10% or something, glad to see it's actually something significant lol

[–] Absaroka@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Yup - same here. Thought it was going to be something like "went from 60% to 56%"

[–] PortoPeople@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

We'll need them once the really bad stuff starts.

"Collapse" is some heavy hyperbole, but it's interesting to see any dip this soon in.

This is what really stuck with me:

The 2024 election saw Trump win 63 percent of rural voters, up from 60 percent in 2020, according to AP VoteCast.

Only 63 percent?! I would have guessed, given the rural area I'm in, that they would have hit 80 percent, maybe more. Of course there aren't that many MAGA faithful, not the frothing at the mouth sort, but I'd have guessed Trump voters would be far higher. We just had a special election for Florida District 1 and the Democrat got fucking creamed.

  1. They're loud, but not necessarily many.

  2. They are passionate, and therefore will turn out to vote.

  3. American voter turnout is generally pretty low. The best year in over 100 years was 2020 with still only about 2/3 of eligible voters showing up to vote.

These things combined make it seem impossible for Democrats or progressive independents to win almost anywhere. All it takes is candidates impressive enough to break through to the people who aren't showing up to vote. Milquetoast weiners aren't exciting enough for this, and neither is the strategy of trying to court the right.

"It's hurting us now."

Scum.

Just wait until the magas realize they’ve lost their medicade and food stamps. I hope his feral gun toting supporters turn on him. It would be a beautiful thing to watch them storm the capital and tear him limb from limb. 🍿

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago

Doubt it.

Trump presidency #1, he removed disability insurance, food stamps, Affordable Care Act work. A lot of it was rolled back.

But you know what? The Maga cucks still went to every god damn live event praising this numskull.

They don't care.

[–] redhorsejacket@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Idle speculation: I wonder if the fact that this poll was conducted by PBS/NPR has anything to do with the results. Someone who is cheering MAGA on probably won't speak with those organizations for fear of catching the lib.

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

I mean, they have numbers from the start of the presidency and now, so it's not just a single snapshot. So even if there is some bias or issue, the before and after would still be relevant which shows a 13pt drop on approval and 8pr increase on dissaproval.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Probably why he just signed that executive order to defund them

[–] NarrativeBear@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Let's throw him a parade /s

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Big deal. There's no election in near future (or any future?) for this to matter and the % "dip" would have to be multiple times as large. Too little and way, way too late.

[–] GeForce8800GTX@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Its not nothing.

I know its a long shot to hope Republicans gain some sort of semblance of sanity, but if their Republican voting constituency keeps pushing, there's just a tad bit more than a snowballs chance in hell that some Republicans will cross the aisle. If they don't...well, they will probably lose their seat to another Republican that at least pretends they are going to listen to their voting constituency.

Again, it is a long shot but its not nothing. And while Republicans are just one big cult, it is important to remember that smaller seats may not be as long-step in motion with the rest of the party, and where we can see ground shift.
