Skinny jeans, crossing your legs, using an iron, shaping your eyebrows, and even eating soup are among the things he derides as too feminine.

DUDE!
If your super-manly-manliness is fucking threatened by... eating soup... you're not manly at all, you're just fucking pathetic, weak-sauce and insecure.
It's like trying to be "cool" by telling people how cool you are, you defacto are not.

My grandad ate soup every fucking meal after he came back from slapping nazis halfway accross the world, running uphill into fucking machine guns and he was more manlier than these shit-stain-producing-troglodytes.

Lmfao soup…? Like, a roasted butternut squash and garlic soup, mounted with locally sourced fermented butter and a dash of sherry? Fucking hearty as shit and delicious? That’s unacceptable? I will fucking fight you, you wilted fucking parsnip.

It’s all about the fragile man feeling like people will think they are less of a man for arbitrary reasons.

The real question should be, “how can I gain more control over my life?”

… but that requires actual work. It’s easier to just not eat soup and to wear baggy pants.

Ya wtf is wrong with soup. I make some bomb ass bacon and potato chowder. I have a fajita steak soup that will light your asshole on fire. And it's fucking blasphemous downright unamerican to hate chili.

As a Nebraskan chili and cinnamon rolls are a staple of our winter diet.

I take more pride in preparing soup than i do grilling. Grilling an idiot can do. Soup takes skill

[–] mint_tamas@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I love all kinds of soup and it’s the one type of meal where I can truly go insane with the amount of hot sauce I put in it. An amount that would probably make these soup-hating boys cry.

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Can you share your recipe?? I love chowder and I can't say that I've ever had fajita steak soup — sounds amazing!

[–] HuskerNation@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Not at home this weekend. Can't remember amounts but AI might be able to help you. Crockpot 8 hours on low. Chicken broth, onion, potatoes, bacon, ham if you want it, add cream cheese 30 minutes before it's done

Crockpot Thin slices steak chopped, beef broth, beef bouillon cube, tomato paste, corn, black beans, onions, finely chopped green and red pepper, jalapeno, packet of fajita seasoning, chili powder, and cayenne pepper to your liking this is what you will want to be careful with. . Edit and diced tomatoes

Nothing less masculine than getting on your knees and begging to a fictional daddy.

On the certain road down to incel-ism.

Actual title as I see it on the article:

Young US men are joining Russian churches promising 'absurd levels of manliness'

Some notable initial content:

Skinny jeans, crossing your legs, using an iron, shaping your eyebrows, and even eating soup are among the things he derides as too feminine.

There are other videos of Father Moses McPherson - a powerfully-built father of five - weightlifting to the sound of heavy metal.

He was raised a Protestant and once worked as a roofer, but now serves as a priest in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) in Georgetown, Texas, an offshoot of the mother church in Moscow.

The disservice this manly man is doing to society is regrettable, because invariably, women are going to get hurt as a result of this traditionalist backwards thinking.

Fellas, is it gay to eat soup?

Heavy metal dudes are usually really nice. I bet most of them wouldn't approve of this guys bigotry.

[–] Enkrod@feddit.org 5 points 2 days ago

Am a heavy metal dude. Can confirm that I absolutely disapprove of this weak ass faker.

If you feel threatened in your manliness from checks notes ... wait what? Eating soup?! Ironing? Crossing ones legs? Successful women?

Dude can't handle soup! Soup!!

Asshole needs to grow a spine and put a brain on it.

Verdict: Not metal

When I read the bit about girls being taught to prioritize marriage over careers, I grimaced. Ladies, bless yourselves with your own savings and checking, but especially savings.

[–] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago

is this Russia's new ploy to get US spies?

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Ya know Im quite traditionally masculine by my kins standards and frankly speaking I find these "I'm super masculine take me seriously" types to be rather amusing if not pathetic. Mind you my kin and I come from a cousin stock of Old John Brown meaning that traditional masculine activities consists of scalping slavers, burning Mormons alive, and making Southern Trash know their place.

How modernity has stripped many of us of our traditions, I must thank these weaklings for volunteering to help bring my ancestors traditions back. After all it won't be the same, but these pissants will make fine targets regardless since they are close enough.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 20 points 3 days ago

I am a fat, balding, overweight IT guy, I enjoy photography, driving to find new places, the occasional cooking and learning about modern history.

I live alone, I deal with cleaning, washing, cooking and paying the bills, I have my debt in check and can save money every month.

I am far more manly than any "alpha" male influencer.

[–] Peter1986C 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yep, my ancestors even sold to him a couple times. Though we were more bound to the frontier selling to various first nations groups we were friendly with

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 days ago

All religions are only about control. This one is no different, just that the control likely comes from somewhere in Russia, but it's control nonetheless

It's okay, there is no god, it's okay.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Sounds like how to make men weaker. Wow. This is sad. Just a list of unnecessary things to be a snowflake about.

Note: to flush ouf these proud boys is to offer soup and watch them melt into a puddle of pathetic loserishness

[–] HakFoo@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 3 days ago (10 children)

There's a huge shift in male role models over the past few decades, and it always felt to me like the people who could never fit into the old militaristic, athletic "conqueror"-style mould saying "we'll invent our own definition of masculinity" than a direct, fully-bought-in progression.

This will leave people behind-- the ones who can't find new "appropriate" idols or aren't impressed by their achievements. The Linus Torvalds version of conquering the world is hardly the Genghis Khan version.

Maybe we need to find a way to broaden the modern pantheon to figures that can resonate with a traditional audience.

[–] malin@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 days ago

The Linus Torvalds version of conquering the world is hardly the Genghis Khan version.

An interesting point to make.

Richard Stallman is definitely my biggest inspiration. I never considered it as a masculine or feminine thing, just an example of someone who is correct while most of his peers are wrong.

The pen really is mightier than the sword, and it has been for awhile. That's why the ruling class doesn't want us to have any of our own ideas.

Some of these guys didn't get the memo. They probably never had a good male role model to guide them on how to adapt to modern society.

when will they become jihadis

[–] Diva@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 days ago (3 children)

None of these bozos are going to actually do the fasts- which are traditionally essentially vegan, no meat (other than invertebrates), no eggs, dairy and only sometimes you get seed/olive oils.

I'm actually the highest level of orthodox, vegan 24/7 💅 meanwhile these guys are just treat hogs chasing the latest fad.

[–] Ironfist79@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

They're also not going to follow the parts of Orthodoxy that say to be kind to other people and to mind your own salvation first. Orthodoxy is not like right wing Evangelicalism and it saddens me to see people like this taking over the church.

[–] Asidonhopo@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I've got a friend who became Orthodox a few years before Russia even invaded Crimea in 2014, he does the fasts. They are hardcore. He's a good guy and to see how politicized Orthodoxy has become the past decade or so makes me sad, he just believes it's the correct church, as opposed to Catholicism or Protestants. I can't say I agree with him but at least some of those Orthodox people are cool. Not all though, I've met some who were real tools, and any flavor of Christianity leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

[–] genevieve@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You’d be surprised how much meat one can eat while observing the fasting discipline.

In Greece, for example, some stores explicitly label shrimp, octopus, squid, etc. as “fasting” foods.

[–] Ironfist79@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Because they are? Certain seafood is still allowed. We eat a lot of fish during Lent.

[–] Ilixtze@lemm.ee 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How do you say: "I KICK ASS FOR THE LORRD!" in Russian?

[–] Ithral@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago

Я надираю задницы ради Господа

[–] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago

After you are baptized do you get enrolled in the army and send to the frontline in Ukraine?

[–] glorkon@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Not believing in stuff on insufficient evidence is pretty damn masculine.
