Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

but without cops there wouldn't be pride

they literally started the first pride event

Technically correct! The best kind of correct!

"I don't care who or how my kid loves, but so help me if they become a cop..."

If you raise a new jackboot have you really succeeded as a parent?

"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness, it is life."

If you’re a gay cop and want to be at pride off duty while dressed as a cop, you’re either malicious (I mean, cop, so that reads) or too stupid to be trusted with a gun. Which, again, cop, so that also reads.

no cops; no mps; no shitty childrens authors at pride

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Military police or ministers of parliament?

but without cops, there wouldn't be a pride month

I’m proud of myself for managing not to vomit after reading the phrase “flaunting their lifestyles”.

How dare they have the gall to exist in public!

[–] will_steal_your_username@lemmy.blahaj.zone 54 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah it's fine to be a cop in your own home, but do they really have to be cops publicly as well?

I don't care what those people get up to in the confines of their own bedroom, but why do they feel the need to project all of that onto us? I want no part in this perverse power fantasy they're insisting on, but they won't hear anything of it. "I'm a police officer so you have to do what I say" — It's utter balderdash, is what I say.

Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical weaponized ceremony

Do you want another Peter Thiel? Because that’s how you get a Peter Thiel.

Shouldn't capitalism just see LGBTQ people as another market to be exploited? The problem is that capitalism uses religion as a means to control the workers.

[–] Saleh@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago

Capitalism using religion as a means?

You sure it is not the distribution of capital, dead-end employment, militarized police, obscure markets, corruption, privatization of profits and common infrastructure and socialization of the losses?

Because all of these seem much more critical to how capitalism works over religion. Especially with the Abrahamic scriptures being very opposed to greed, interest rates, gambling, doing trade in temples...

Shouldn’t capitalism just see LGBTQ people as another market to be exploited?

I mean, that's literally what has been happening for a long time.

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

The markets adapt to the times

Elons favourite symbol

Shouldn’t capitalism just see LGBTQ people as another market to be exploited?

It does. That's why we see all the corpo pride stuff in pride month every year and why there was recently an uptick in queer representation in media. Ofc their support of us is fake and has always been shallow and sanitized, and is the reason why there are several companies pulling back on visible (if any) support this year.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 days ago

Yes, that's why they only start "supporting" it after it becomes socially acceptable enough so that the money they plan on making is more than the money from dipshits they expect to alienate.

how tf you spot a gay banker @ pride?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's the one trying to swindle the other parade goers out of their homes and money.

Which admittedly can be a difficult thing to spot visually from a distance 🤔

If he's an investment banker, though, he's pretty easy to spot thanks to the feed bag full of cocaine strapped to the front of his face at all times.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago

They'll tell you what bank they own cause the only reason they're there is to make you associate them with Pride
