Reading the article, that dude just sounds like a sad person with no true hope in life.

Nevertheless, she said, Leto kept calling her, “always at one, two, three AM”. “And the conversations turned sexual. He’d ask things like: ‘Have you ever had a boyfriend? Have you ever sucked a dick?’” she told Air Mail.

Sounds like a drunk alcoholic.

well, there goes the new Tron movie...

[–] TheDeadlySquid@lemm.ee 11 points 18 hours ago

Why do I confuse him with Russell Brand? Oh yeah, now I get it.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 74 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Just nine? The dude has a sex cult island.

[–] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah but they are into it. People ate weirdos

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 6 points 17 hours ago

Until the drugs wear off or they need to go home early, then The Implications keep them there.

[–] LadyButterfly@lazysoci.al 21 points 1 day ago

Just nine... for now

Haha so true

It's always the ones you most suspect.

[–] LadyButterfly@lazysoci.al 66 points 1 day ago

Yep there's been rumours about him for years, this just confirms suspicions

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 41 points 1 day ago (6 children)

The weird thing with Jared Leto is that I've never felt he's been very successful, yet he's always had bunch of people hyping him. I can't think of him being a leading actor in anything I've ever seen. He's always been lower down the bill. You look at all his award nominations on IMDb and 90% of them are "supporting actor".

So why is he a name? I always put it down to him being involved with the "right" people in Hollywood. Those people obviously being very wrong.

[–] Colalextrast@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I mean... he's had plenty of starring roles, and his acting has won him both awards and acclaim. Requiem for a Dream, Mr. Nobody, Dallas Buyers Club, House of Gucci, The Little Things - and that's not including his clunkers. He's still an in-demand actor with 30 years of work behind him. Not everyone makes a career that good in Hollywood.

I think he's an asshole. But he's a talented asshole.

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 1 points 11 hours ago

Dallas Buyers Club

For which he won his oscar for Actor in a supporting role

House of Gucci

Supporting role behind Lady Gaga and Adam Driver

The Little Things

Nominated at Golden Gloves and SAG awards for best supporting role.

I'll give you Requiem and Mr Nobody, however there's no denying he doesn't carry films in general. He's an award winning supporting actor.

Lord of war was great

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (2 children)

Requiem for a Dream, Mr. Nobody, Dallas Buyers Club, House of Gucci, The Little Things

and Bladerunner 2049.

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 1 points 10 hours ago

The Ryan Gosling film with Harrison Ford.

Aren't you proving my point?

[–] Colalextrast@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

He was great in that as well. I didn't include it because he wasn't in the ads for the movie, and so "we" weren't sold a seat based on his participation, but good callout.

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He is the lead singer of "30 Seconds to Mars". That's where his fame came from originally.

His appearance in movies has always been a weird "let's shove this famous guy from one media into this other one for publicity" kinda thing. Then for some reason he just stayed doing movies and here we are.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Well, yeah, he and the guy from Live (the music band) both had cameos in Fight Club. also Meatloaf. also Brad Pitt is college pals with Sheryl Crow. I'm sure I could notice more, but I'm not interested in deep diving shit that reminds me of pretty mediocre times from High School, and largely falls flat as my adult life faced FAR more bullshit than disaffected 20 year old's in the 90's could have ever dared dream, my 20's was defined by terror attacks, mass war, economic meltdown and the slow burn of manufactured consent pulling us all the way into fascism.

[–] phar@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I had no idea he was in a band. Dude was from My So Called Life.

[–] ramenbelly@lemmy.zip 3 points 18 hours ago

Jordan Catalano

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Never heard of that show. Always knew him from the band growing up and was surprised as hell to learn he did film.

[–] phar@lemmy.ml 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

How old are you? That might have something to do with it. I'm 42, so Jared Leto was pretty famous for me in 1994

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

32

It's absolutely an age thing. Show was before my time but grew up in the heyday of 30 Seconds to Mars

[–] cokeslutgarbage@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Interesting perspective. I'm 33 and I watched My So Called Life religiously. I forgot he was in it, I know him most from Dallas Buyer's Club in a supporting role. I've never heard of 30 seconds to Mars until now (but if you name a song I'd probably have a light bulb moment and recognize the song, not the band)

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Hollywood is a network of interlocking blackmail. They all know each other's dirty little secrets and Leto has a sex cult island he's using as a honey pot to get a bit more dirt on other people then they do on him.

[–] non_burglar@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

It's Morbin time.

[–] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think there's a couple reasons. He did make some really good music, and he has a very recognizable face in that he kind of looks like Jesus lol

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 1 points 11 hours ago

His music completely passed me by. I've only ever known him as an actor.

It’s kind of interesting how all of these guys will have these stories attached to them for years until anyone cares.

Sorta like Cosby - people knew, but nobody gave a shit until Hannibal Buress started calling it out.

They get away with it for years, live glamorous wealthy lives that give them access to tons of victims, and if they are ever punished it doesn’t last long.

[–] Darleys_Brew@lemmy.ml 21 points 1 day ago

The thing is, people knew Jimmy Savile was dodgy…women spoke to people on set and even teachers, coppers caught him in awkward situations…the guy just went on and on til he died. I get why women don’t speak up cause there’s so much risk of ridicule.

They're really burying the lede here. The closing paragraphs of the article:

The woman added that once, when she was 18, Leto “suddenly pulled his penis out and started masturbating”. She told the outlet: “Then he walked over, grabbed my hand, and put it on him. He leaned in and said: ‘I want you to spit on it.’”

Another woman, Allie Teilz, a Los Angeles-based DJ and music producer, last month on Instagram reposted a 2012 Facebook status in which she had said: “Youre [sic] not really in L.A. until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage… In a kilt.. And a snow hat,” Air Mail reported.

In her Instagram stories, which Air Mail reviewed, Teilz said: “I was assaulted and traumatized by this creep when I was 17 … He knew my age and didn’t care. What he did was predatory, terrifying and unacceptable.”

[–] gnutrino@programming.dev 65 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Yeah, that seems a bit more than "sexual impropriety" (which sounds like hes's being accused of premarital sex or something).

I can't stand this asshole and don't understand how he keeps nailing acting roles in top movies of genres I love. Anytime I see him cast in a movie I'm interested in, it just deflates my anticipation to almost zero.

30 Second to Mars used to be top tier like 10-15 years ago, but after seeing him about 5 years ago I've lost all respect for him in all aspects of his career. He took the stage dressed like Jesus and proceeded to spin around for 3 hours while the entire crowd sand his songs for him. Absolutely abysmal show.

Hopefully this is the last we need to hear and see of this jackass, but time will tell.

Cult leader found to be guilty of doing cult leader shit

[–] pulsewidth@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I know the writer and editor had a lot of options to go through when choosing a lead photo for this story, but I think they must've simultaneously said "that's the one" when they got to this pic.
