The trustee overseeing Infowars host Alex Jones’ personal bankruptcy case is accusing the far-right conspiracy theorist of trying to shield more than $5 million from creditors, including relatives of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut.

Three new lawsuits filed by the trustee on Friday alleging fraudulent asset transfers are the latest developments in Jones’ long-running bankruptcy case, which has been pending in federal court in Houston for more than two years. In financial statements filed in bankruptcy court last year, Jones listed his net worth at $8.4 million.

The Sandy Hook families won nearly $1.5 billion in judgments in 2022 in lawsuits filed in Connecticut and Texas accusing Jones of defamation and emotional distress for saying the school shooting that killed 20 first graders and six educators was a hoax. Victims’ relatives testified in court about being terrorized by Jones’ supporters.

Literally just need to hire a PI to follow him and you’ll get lots of proof of what he’s hiding

Different right wing nut job. This one is the one about chem trails.

IANAL but it seems like he’s really skirting the law here. Like I think it can be a felony.

Dan over at Knowledge Fight has been cataloging how Alex has been working to (lazily) shield his assets for at least a year or two now. He's barely trying to hide it at all, and is basically telegraphing this on air and almost feels like he's trying to give them more ammo against him, but he is also very stupid.

Some sodomite sent me a bucket of poop.

I'm not mad at the crew

Because Infowars’ assets are still tied up in the courts, Jones has been allowed to continue broadcasting his shows and hawking merchandise from Infowars’ Austin studio.

Well that's infuriating. Also bonus points for the AP trying to stay neutral and then throwing in the word "hawking".

That's a tiny hand

Knowing Alex, no shock.

Looks at the calendar

I mean he clearly has shielded them since there's still no payout. Incredible journalism.

It shouldn't be hard to prove. He was talking about it on air at different points.

[–] CurlyWurlies4All@slrpnk.net 46 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

It's already proven and decided. Not only was it proven. He's continued to make the same claims post-judgement. Completely unrepentant.

It's getting him to actually pay the penalties that's turning out to be the difficult part.

He shifts assets to under his father's name. He lies about the size of his assets. He makes side deals with external funders to outbid buyers and gift assets back to him. He's just a bad dude.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not talking about that part of it, I'm talking about the shifting of assets. He has openly talked about how he is doing that on the air.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Not just talking about it, bragging about how people shouldn't go to the IW store, but now Alex Jones Inc or some stupid garbage.

I really think he's trying to see how far he can go before he forced them to do something on air like he's been edging himself for over the last decade of secretly being the thing he's ranted about all these years.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

It's the epitome of confidently incorrect. It's like he thinks he has found a loophole and is bragging about it.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 hours ago

We already know he lies on air. I'm not saying he's lying but him doing so to get more people to buy his shitty products is very plausible.

[–] iamanurd@midwest.social 21 points 5 hours ago

They’ve mentioned fraud. Is this a criminal trial? Please be a criminal trial!

[–] Lupus@feddit.org 40 points 5 hours ago

Lol everything he has done in these lawsuits was for the sole purpose to hide his money.

5 different corporate representatives were sent and the court ruled every single testimony of those as non responsive to discovery. The last corporate rep to testify was a hired outside lawyer with no experience in civil law, no familiarity with Texas law and had no experience in financial matters. Why would you send someone as your corporate representative, who has no idea what's going on, or any experience in relevant fields? To obscure the process of discovery and to hide the money.
