Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
Remember there's the neutral axis
Some are chaotic neutral. They're not out to wreck stuff, they just don't care if they do
Chaotic Neutral
Still evil.
unless by lawful you mean they manipulate the law however they please with their money and connections, then no.
um, yeah. that's literally the difference.
lawful evil is "evil in a suit and tie" while chaotic evil is "monstrous, uncivilized evil."
That's the entire schtick of lawful evil. Manipulation, extortion, background deals, and all that.
You miss the point of the law
Lawful? Really?
I guess it’s meant to say the law is whatever they say it is.
Yeah, there is a convicted felon and an illegal immigrant right there.
I'd put Trump and Musk into 'chaotic'
Definitely evil though.
No need to describe them in any way but just ...
Evil
Hahahahaha Hahaha haha "Lawful"
Fun fact none of them are lawful
They paid congress a lot of money to say that they actually are lawfull
In the d&d alignment chart they are because capitalists have no inherent power outside of the laws that enforce their property. Devils in D&D will always break the rules(and rebel) if they think they can get away with it.
Huh? Devils are the corporate "trap you in fineprint and kill you with subclauses" type of evil. They are the ones who sell you the monkey's paw and come to collect your soul no matter how it shakes out. Catching them in airtight clauses (or narrow loopholes) is famously how you screw over devils.
Trump is more Chaotic Evil
Facts. D&D defines the chaotic/lawful divide as whether or not the character abides by a code, ethos, or set of rules. So not "Law" in the "Legal Eagle Law Team" kind of way. Chaotic Evil characters don't really play by any rules, are unpredictable, and are just plain the worst.
Slightly debatable which version of evil is the worst. I'd agree that I'd probably rather have a Lawful Evil head of state right now than what we've got.
Sounds like Trump.
Sounds like all of them.
It's why he's not a billionaire. Zing!
Trump is a felon, so I am not sure "lawful" is the best fit.
The lawful/chaotic axis represents a person's willingness to follow an external set of rules against their own instincts or opinions. Having a pocket judge or a pocket president to legitimize one's actions does not make that person lawful.
Nah, don't forget that DJT is a convicted felon.
lawful
As in can dictate law
As in “full of law”
Like, just jam-packed stuffed to the gills with law, to the point where they vomit law out into the world and we all boil to death slowly in their law-infused stomach acid
