Except he was furious that Augustus was touching the chocolate river and he was even more upset that he fell in it, presumably because that batch is effectively ruined.

He owns a factory, I'm sure the batch isn't ruined if there isn't an inspector to witness that.

He's also very particular about the factory and the chocolate it makes. Candy with a hint of gloop sounds about as appealing as Gloop fudge, and Wonka may just chuck out the whole batch.

Wonka didn't defy the laws of reality just so he could cut corners in the factory.

He also never, ever let anyone into the factory (until the events in the book), so public safety concerns weren't an issue.

Now, the Oompa Loompas... they're not naturally sterile, because they're wearing clean suits later, but it could be that they are more buoyant so their safety if they fall in is less of an issue.

Wonka has magical technology. He's probably perfectly sterilizing the chocolate later in the process.

WE SHOULD KILL HIM.

Yes! Augustus fell in; he didn't intentionally go swimming in it.

There's a German chocolate joke in there, but I'm not touching it with fascism getting new iron wings these days.

"Oy, Willy Wanka', you can't do that, we are shutting you down!"

"But you haven't even seen just how undocumented my sexy workers are. Like, scientists haven't documented them yet, not even a name assigned to the species. Would you like to take one home & we forget about all these technicalities?"

"Are these people with dwarfism you painted & labeled a different species so you don't have to pay them???"

"No, I'm a factory owner, such allegations would be out of character for such an entrepreneur!"

Edit: didn't know, but they are just purple humans ... paid in beans ... cocoa beans, not lemmy beans (which as we know, do actually irl come from slave labour).

They are small humans who were preyed upon by the various predators that reside in their homeland before Wonka invited them to work at his factory. They are paid in their favorite food, cocoa beans, which were extremely rare on their island. The Oompa-Loompas are mischievous, loving to play practical jokes and singing songs which, according to Wonka, they are very good at improvising.

I mean, they're all dead anyhow, so what's the issue?

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Good thing the FDA would have no power over a British chocolate factory.
