He looks like a Bond villain! Stroking hairless cat "And now I shall direct your film, Mr. Bond."

Cue the people saying “DENNIS VILL A NEW AY VAY”

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Please. Please. Hope do you pronounce it? I have no idea! I feel very stupid!

Kind of think his talents are wasted on this creaky old franchise.

[–] Zetta@mander.xyz 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Agreed, but I'm gonna see the movie and I haven't seen the past 5. He could something cool with it

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 1 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Haven't they finished all the original books already?

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 3 points 17 hours ago

They were only loosely based on the books. Sometimes just the title. And they ran out of books 30 years ago.

No. I need at least 20-25 more spy one-man-army action movies before I watch anything original again.

For real, though. He should do original/unique movies. Leave the generic slop factory shit for Michael Bay clones.

And make them all operate more like incomprehensible cologne commercials than action stories.

You son of a bitch, I'm in

Honestly, I'm quite hopeful for his version of Bond. His films are phenomenal, his adaptations have hit the nail as close-to-centre as imaginably possible. He has had great reverence for the character since a child.

I think he will do right by what is expected from the genre while pushing Bond into fresh territory and away from the potential misogynist traps (not to say that Daniel Craig's films were especially bad at this). AND he'll obviously have a hand in the new casting which should be fascinating.

Having said that, I'm weary of Bond beyond Villeneuve mostly because of Amazon. They don't give a shit about legacy, only ROI. Villeneuve, now, has the clout to demand total creative control but think about the subsequent movies.. think about the eventual spin-offs.. I shudder.

I could not be more disappointed.

[–] GameWarrior@discuss.online 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why? He directed Sicaro, and that turned out pretty well. The same goes for Dune, Arrival, and Bladerunner. Not saying everything he's done is amazing, but he seems to know what he's doing.

[–] falidorn@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

Said it above but I am disappointed he’s working on Bond. Would rather see him do really anything else.

[–] ganksy@lemmy.world -1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Sicario and Arrival were great successes that I thoroughly enjoyed. The atmospheres of Dune and Bladerunner were perfect but the stories felt like hollow shells of the originals. Maybe he should just stick to original productions.

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 14 points 22 hours ago

I think that's just more the nature of adaptations. Dune is an incredibly difficult story to adapt, and his version is the best adaptation that currently exists. It's also subjective and your opinion is hardly the consensus.

[–] Uruanna@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Take off the last word from that title, see what that does

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Sure you could be. It could have been Rian Johnson.

Every Bond trope: subverted.

[–] falidorn@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

I meant that Denis is working on a Bond film instead of something actually interesting.

But that twist that Q was the real villain mastermind the whole time...

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Creating the Bond villains to have something to do. :)
