PNW... The utility decided to take our power out. It was sort of local so not complaining too much.

With the exception of wildfires, ppl shooting fireworks are going to lose their health insurance soon anyway. Might as well die from something fun instead of just microplastics
How about, do your BBQ, but axe the fireworks? That definitely has to cause more pollution.
That definitely has to cause more pollution.
This is what the article is about... They're basically saying "The fireworks are going to cause hazardous air conditions, stay inside and keep your windows and doors shut, don't go outside to cook because you're subjecting yourselves to dangerous levels of pollution."
Agree with you that fireworks just seem like an unnecessary relic from the past. Plus, in addition to the pollution concerns, they scare the shit out of animals, and can cause fires, especially the 'backyard' variety.
We did also get a reminder from our Congressperson today that fireworks aren't just illegal and dangerous to the user, they can cause devastating wildfires. Which we don't need any more of. Agreed, but what about the dumpster fire over there where you work, Representative?
Who is cooking outdoors AFTER IT IS DARK ENOUGH FOR FIREWORKS?
I haven't heard too many fireworks go off in my neck of the woods these past few weeks. Even now on July 3rd there's hardly anyone blowing any up compared to last year's cacophony at the same time. People are either being environmentally conscious, too poor, or too ashamed of the US this year to light fireworks. Tomorrow's gonna be the real way to know for sure though. My town's hosting an event so I'm gonna poke my head out to see how the crowds are like to get a better feel.
Update for 7/4: Folks around here started setting off everything they had. Car alarms keep going off every five minutes. My dogs are anxiously hiding under the bed. My guess is their budget was a little tighter this year which forced them to hold off until now.
Rural redneck area, the 4th is normally celebrated with fireworks starting the day the first pop up store opens. Haven't heard a single one go off yet.
The fines are crazy now and the police keep reminding people they have a bunch of drones to track fireworks. They also said if any kids set off fireworks the parents will get fined.
But shoot up a school and the parents don’t get fined. Wrong priorities. Let them burn.
That's good, they can still grill then
The difference in visual air quality on the mornings of July 3 and July 5 tend to be pretty stark in the Bay Area. I'm not surprised to learn LA is the same.
Fireworks are illegal in most cities but that hardly stops anyone
My city got a fuck ton of police drones this year. I'm sure they will be out in force recording the festivities.
Shooting down police drones with fireworks sounds like a victimless crime
