Recently I switched from Apple Music to Spotify free/Navidrome. I am moving my library to Navidrome slowly. I have done a similar thing in the past as well.

I noticed that both times, as well as trying out new speakers, the first song I listened to was In the End by Linkin Park, followed by their latest album.

What is yours?

Edit: Holy Shit! I was not expecting so many replies. It is not possible for me to reply to everyone right away. I will listen to each of your first songs and reply to everyone.

Angel - massive attack.

Tests both the low end and the high end frequencies really well, plus it's an incredible track and well produced

First time I DJd, I cleared the floor because I really wanted to hear Angel on big, club speakers.

No ragerts.

Genesis by justice for the bass and delight by jamie berry to test how they fare with cymbals and trumpets (i found that if a speaker has problems with the band pass filters/ channel separation it sounds awful).

Plus they sound awesome for their respective genres.

Bohemian Rhapsody. Every time.

Ace of spades - Motorhead.

65daysofstatic - Wild Light

But the FLAC version I have, obviously.

That album is a masterpiece, as far as I'm concerned. I will never tire of it, and it really gives my speakers a workout.

Big fan of 65daysofstatic ever since No Man's Sky

I test every new headphone and speaker system with Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock. So many layers to the music that gets washed out on poor setups so it's great to check dynamics!

i set up lidarr + streamrip with a script that gets albums missing from lidarr, and then tells streamrip to download them from tidal

so if i were to delete myusic collection, it would download 2WEI - Emergence first, as that is currently the most recent album of the alphabeitally first artist i track

but answering what you actually mean, it'd be Machine Head - Of Kingdom and Crown

Radiohead - In Rainbows

My wife says: something with a lot of bass.

[โ€“] selokichtli@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 month ago

Well, you bet me to it, but what can I say? That's my answer, too.

[โ€“] Naich 2 points 1 month ago

Prodigy - Light Up The Sky. Or anything else by then really.

[โ€“] teamevil@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Lowrider -Ode to Ganymede on Vinyl cause it's fun to break speakers in like a proper lady.

Unless it is faster to use Bandcamp.

I'm choosing Iron Maiden's Powerslave today

I always test my new audio gear with "Cherish the Day" by Sade.

Edit: Holy Shit!...

We're like Hobbits. Very compatible with simple and to the point.

Lindsey Stirling โ€“ Crystallize.

Tells me if I set up bass and upper frequencies correctly.

Take Flight is my goto from her. Yes, because of the Terraria mod.

Austin Wintory - Apotheosis (but the flac version).

Just such a gorgeous piece that spans the whole spectral range and has a wide dynamic range. Really intricate details from all the instruments involved too.

Its a beautiful way to experience a new set of speakers and also to dial in the balance on the EQ.

Immediately followed by the Nurture album by Porter Robinson

[โ€“] witness_me@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Crown Royal - Jill Scott.

For vocals, probably Constellations (Unplugged) by Dabu. This song can be found on less compressed platforms too, which I recommend

Sennheiser chose Eagles - Hotel California for it's CES listening demo for the Orpheus 2 headset($55,000 headset)

Norah Jones - Don't Know Why was also used by some people at a different event.

I think I remember they had Tidal Master Quality streaming used for the source, but I could find that article I remember again just now
