That's cause the Nazis were defeated.
Well, my grandfather on my mothers side was an SA man, rolled with the things life put in his way, brought his family good through the war and into the post war period. Grandfather on my dad's side was a soldier, spend some time at the end of the war in captivity, but also turned out OK.

I see your point, but I don't feel divided about the EU; and "feeling divided about politicians" is basically the definition of democracy.

Well because the EU realises that if you increase tariffs then people pay the price (or variety of goods they can buy comfortably decreases)
What the should do is tax their fucking techbro companies already. People don't pay for Instagram and google, companies using their shitty spying ad networks do, so it would be killing two birds with one stone.
