Guess it will soon be the death to them and the end of public transportation travel with it.

Greyhound stopped servicing most of Canada in 2018 (it still partially operated in Ontario and Quebec). In 2021 it shut down completely.

And it sucks, esp in remote areas where there's few options for healthcare and people have to travel vast distances for kidney dialysis or simple physical exams ... never mind holiday travel.

Over here in australia our greyhound is still kicking but not great.

What a sad death of such an iconic service.

Growing up in the 1990s hardcore/punk scene(s), myself and friends took Greyhounds everywhere. As did a lot of homeless punk kids back then. For friends I knew that were being physically and/or sexually abused, Greyhound was their only way out.

A lot of memories there.

Why do we refer to these types of companies as "investment firms"? They aren't investing in anything unless stripping litterally anything of value and then shoving the shell that is left into bankruptcy is investing. A lot of times they even saddle the purchased company with the costs of being purchased.

Gods I wish we like actually tried and got semi-nationalized intermodal transportation in this country right, and not the gods awful disgusting mess we ended up with.

It’s sad, but what do you expect when such infrastructure is held privately? If they provide such an important public service, they should be publicly owned.

[-] detalferous@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Wait ... was grayhound public before?

[-] derf82@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

No. But just as airlines use public airports, so too could cities have public bus terminals.

[-] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

Wow, didn't think Greyhound could get shittier.

[-] S_204@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

I blame Vince Lee. Ever since he did what he did greyhound has never recovered.

Holy Shit.

This year, Li’s petition was granted. A judge on the Manitoba Criminal Code Review Board ordered Li to be discharged and ruled that there shall be no legal obligations or restrictions on his independent living.
