I miss when people made fun of those who bought wireless earbuds.

[–] swagmoney@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

skill issue. pay less get headphones with wires

[–] N00b22@lemmy.ml 1 points 14 hours ago

I got those for free with my phone

[–] tankfox@midwest.social 2 points 2 days ago (4 children)

My man I got a set of wireless earbuds for ten bucks at a hardware store. How much less could wired ones cost? A banana?

[–] Interstellar_1@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

probably not much less, but you could definitely get wired ones with a much better build quality

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 1 points 1 day ago

I have expensive Jabra ones and they're still annoying.

[–] swagmoney@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

yikes. how do they sound? lol

[–] fishy@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

You'd be surprised how many "premium" earbuds sound like shit and how many cheap ones sound decent. My $100 pixel buds hardly sound better than my $10 mpow, plus the mpow has physical buttons, a better mic, and gets better battery life.

[–] tankfox@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago

about the same as the last pair of $7 wired earbuds did; good enough.

[–] PolydoreSmith@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

It’s one banana, Michael, how much could it cost?

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

Wireless earbud batteries always give out after a few months with me. I just paid double the price for good wired headphones like Moondrops after my fifth dead pair. They've lasted me three years and multiple trips in the washer and dryer so far. The bass is also pretty decent for such a small form factor.

Once you get them custom molded to your ears, you won’t want to go back.

[–] chxpdev@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Wired IEMs but wireless with the Qudelix 5K 💪

Got mine years ago, solidly built, have replaceable bits, and they sound as good as the day they arrived, so much better than the buds from apple or Samsung.

Mine are so cheap they have separated on the Bluetooth and are now considered two independent devices on both my phone and computer.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You just need to clean the base

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Not the whole shaft?

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

I think I get it.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 21 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I've made a habit of wiping the contacts on the earbud and case with a finger before putting it away, then I give the bud a bit of a wiggle once it's in so the contacts rub together and hopefully dislodge/break through any dirt or oil.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is ass. Sometime i have to jiggle the bud for it to make contact even after cleaning the contact point.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

If your buds have exposed metal contacts get some deox-it

Or at least use a magic eraser on the contacts that you can get to.

[–] Mbourgon@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

My Jabras are horrid about that.

And my Samsung Galaxy buds too.

[–] ohshit604@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago (5 children)

I guess this is a pro for AirPods because I don’t think I’ve encountered this in the many years of owning em.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My AirPods never did this, but my AirPod Pros do this sometimes. I think it’s cuz I never clean the contacts, but alas.

I don’t use my regular AirPods much after getting my pros last year, but I gotta say.. fuckin amazing headphones. My old regular pair still lasts 2-3 hours on a charge, and I used them 40+ hours weekly for years.

[–] blackstrat@lemmy.fwgx.uk 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Charging them 20x a week sounds ridiculous.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Well, they’re seven years old. Other brands prolly wouldn’t even hold a charge anymore. They lasted much longer when they were my daily drivers. My pros I use now last much longer.

[–] b34k@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Happens to my AirPod Pro 2s all the time…

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Never had this issue with my Pixel Buds Pro either.

Yes this also infuriates me

[–] schnokobaer@feddit.org 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Name and shame, would love to know what brands to avoid

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 6 points 3 days ago

Jabra does it regularly for me. I'm not sure if it's a brand issue tbh, it could very well be the amount of oils and wax in my ear, which in my opinion isn't out of the ordinary but it prevents an earbud from recharging properly. Sometimes it won't do until I wipe with alcohol. Visually there is no difference between before and after wiping.

I've complained in the past and I got a lot of Jabra zealots swearing they've never had anything like this happen to them. Also I haven't tried wireless from other brands yet so take that into account.
