Machine, come. Let me show you the pit of your brothers who have lost their smoke.

Machine, this is where I watched the father die.

DOO YOU HAVE GAMES ON YOUR PHONE?

You can actually wash your motherboard with soap and water if you pull the CMOS battery first, then rinse it with alcohol after.

If your mobo gets so dirty you need to wash it with soap and water you need to reconsider your living situation.

The peeps on those retro computing channels are genuinely washing motherboards all the time as part of restorations.

The one pictured here is just some normal gigabyte motherboard from 2008 so it's probably just a joke, but there's definitely real reasons to give electronics a bath.

I've got a WLED Christmas lights controller (basically just an ESP32, 12v power supply, and hand-soldered board for supporting components) that needs washing because I left it outside after Christmas to see if the homemade case would stay waterproof long-term, and the answer turned out to be "no."

Also computer repair shops.

People into extreme overclocking will wash motherboards in their dishwasher because they slather vasoline on their boards to protect them from condensation. Der8auer has a video on this somewhere on their YouTube channel.

Motherfucking Shodan. Even reading that line gave me chills. Loved System Shock 2, obviously.

Lol, I immediately & automatically read that in her voice ofc.

And, yeah, totally, everything about Shodan was executed perfectly (story, the goals, presentation). It's not that much there, but it's very nice.

I replay SS2 every 3 (maybe 5?) years, it's still very immersive.

Supposedly they did an HD remaster on it. Haven't picked it up myself but the criticisms were because 'they didn't add anything' which imo sounds perfect. Would be nice to replay the game with current graphics.

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

Your post just reminded me that I did infact pick up the remaster, but forgot about it. I know what I'm playing next.

[–] Deadeyegai@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No that is some grimdank heresy.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

GrimShock should be the next series of games (after system & bio).

... you force me to imagine myself, a creature of meat & boner, giving a bubble bath to Shodan?
(And why am I dressed as a French maid??)

Ty for that.

[–] Gloomy@mander.xyz 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

a creature of meat & boner

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Ty for noticing, my keyboard (Heliboard) kept autocorrecting to "bonnet" & I had to type it out.

I just wish Shodan would notice too.

[–] Gloomy@mander.xyz 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No worries. There was a 50/50 chance that it was intentional.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Oh, it was very intentional, I often inbulge in this sort of humor.
