Ilhan Omar says the DFL's decision demonstrated the "clear tension between the progressive Democrats who are challenging the status quo and moderate Democrats."

We need to stop calling them "moderate" Democrats. We need to name them what they are because there's nothing moderate about them. They are conservative Democrats. They are basically 1980s Republicans.

Obama: "The truth of the matter is that my policies are so mainstream that if I had set the same policies that I had back in the 1980s, I would be considered a moderate Republican."

I've watched the Democrats move to the right since then

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

Vichy Democrats.

Minnesota is such a land of contrast. Rural parents will accept a gay son no problem but the second someone mentions a non-Christian, it's World War 3.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 9 hours ago

they get butthurt when "christianity" is displayed a different way in shows and movies too.

Democrats hate Muslims more than they hate Republicans. First Mamdani now this. They even voted to censure Ilhan Omar but not Randy Fine.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 9 hours ago

at the behest of israel of course, they need the to keep up islamophia up in order to deflect attention from themselves.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago

Democrats hate progressives.

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Muslims stand for the same thing Christians do.

There is literally a town that banned the pride flag, being majority Muslim.

[–] SulaymanF@lemmy.world 0 points 18 hours ago

There’s Christian politicians who did that all over the country, but one town in Michigan with Muslims on the town board did it and everyone blames all Muslims for it, despite Muslims across the country criticizing the decision. Please don’t generalize all 8 million of us for that.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 32 points 1 day ago

I mean they don't like Muslims, but really it's leftists that they hate. The fact that successful Muslim candidates tend to be leftist is a not-so-coincidental coincidence.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nah, Neoliberals hate progressives and anyone who speaks against their owner donors including their favorite fascist apartheid regime.

They're as indifferent towards Muslims below a certain wealth threshold as they are towards all the poors who don't personally enrich them.

You're right that they don't hate Republicans, though. They'd gladly have dinner with even the worst fascist to discuss how best to suppress the left wing of their own party.

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 hours ago

Neoliberals would rather give control to fascists than lose a penny on the bottom lining of their bank accounts.

I literally have made someone so angry on this point, they got banned from two communies and they're stalking my account.

Because I called him out on the fact he thinks brown people need to have their rights removed if they commit any crime. No matter the crime, they need to have all rights stripped from them.

And he thinks I'm somehow a Tankie for wanting to treat people humanly, and now thinks I'm somehow against human rights.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 54 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's not really our party, is it?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nope. Hasn't been since Carter at the latest.

[–] FundMECFS@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 19 hours ago

Never has been.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just in case anyone thought "vote blue no matter who" ever actually meant something. This is happening a lot lately.

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 hours ago

Vote Blue No Matter Who is only for progressives and leftists to swallow their morals for "lesser" evil, but when a progressives win because they forgot to tip the scales enough, they will gladly vote Republican and independent.

[–] hessenjunge@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

As a result, access to party voter rolls, which usually only go to the candidate endorsed by the DFL, will now be given to everyone, which could considerably hurt Fateh's chances of unseating Frey.

Can someone explain to this European why this is so bad?

I can understand that the rolls only going to the incumbent will make unseating them harder.

Shouldn’t the rolls be given to any candidate, so it’s a fair competition? (Under the weird US voting system)

[–] brendansimms@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago

Voting in the states has never been fair competition. Voting rights and voting methods have been major areas of contention in the states since we started.

[–] freeman@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

To be fair there were irregularities, the guy they wanted should not have even made it to the second round.

Makes sense the won't try holding a repeat vote.
