There will be a brief down-time tomorrow for updating to the latest Lemmy version and do some minor hardware changes with the server. I expect it to last not more than half an hour, probably less.
Meta (slrpnk.net)
Here we can discuss anything about this Lemmy instance/server itself.
Our XMPP support chat: Movim or XMPP client.
Sorry, that took a bit longer as there was an unexpected hardware issue. For not it works, but I probably need to think of a better solution in the near future. But the Lemmy upgrade worked fine at least π
I've been noticing some issues over at a community I mod, connectasong@lemmy.world, where the next post is supposed to relate to the previous post. A couple times in the past month (20 days ago and 5 days ago) it seems users have not seen my posts and have made connections to the post before mine.
I'm wondering what could cause this? Some kind of federation issue or update lag?
Hm, both your posts there show up for me when viewed from both slrpnk.net and directly from lemmy.world, and both have upvotes, so they appear to have been seen. Have you tried making a post, and then checking to see if it's showing up when viewed from lemmy.world?
If it is showing up immediately, then I suspect it could be the instance of that other user is lagging behind with lemmy.world itself (which has even happened to us in the past, where it can take a day or two to catch up and get back in sync with lemmy.world due to much activity is centralized there). I see the post that came after yours 20 days ago was from a Kbin user, and that software has seemed more susceptible to federation issues or lagging behind in the past.
The user from 5 days ago who posted after you was a native lemmy.world user, but if they're not a regular there, they may just not know that they're supposed to sort by New on the community, and thus tried to connect something with an older song.
To add to this, a few days ago lemmy.world had connection issues due to collateral damage from being behind a Cloudflare proxy, which was targeted by a large scale DDOS attack, and wasn't able to fully cope with it.
i'm taking a hiatus from lemmy for at least a week. people are getting real weird. thanks for running this wonderful beacon of ecological antifascist sanity on the web.
Even on decentralized social media, healthy breaks are probably a good idea.
Enjoy your time away, Quill!
No pics because I don't want to doxx myself, but we organized a Labor Day protest in my small town. Had about 16 people show up, and we got more support from passerby than hate. Even the cops driving past gave us a thumbs up in solidarity, which was a nice surprise.
There is a group that protests in the park across the street from my shop every Tuesday. I was surprised they were not out today protesting.
Maybe on purpose. From what I gather the 1st of September date is somewhat controversial and basically all of the rest of the world preferring the 1st of May as labor day.
Yeah May Day is when the big street protests happen around here.
I wonder if they'll be out tomorrow
They never not missed a Tuesday since they started. I was hoping they would be there yesterday so i could join them. Something i am unable to do on Tuesdays.
Thank you admins, for all your hard work. π
Heya! Keep an eye on the insurrections in Indonesia!
The GPU donation from @zonorti@slrpnk.net finally arrived. It is a slim profile Geforce 1650 4gb. Ideal for server use and should be quite power efficient π Thanks a lot.
We will try a few things with it like automatic image scanning, but I think the main usecase will be automatic post translations with LibreTranslate once we switch to Piefed (Lemmy sadly lacks this feature).
