I actually would like to see how many people were actually using the 32 bit version of Firefox in 2025 can't be a lot

I did sometimes
I hate how people are cheering this on. 32bit has its place and linux has always been a sanctuary for legacy hardware.
Nobody stops you from using a version there's in 32-bit...
And no - there's not much hardware out there, who doesn't run 64-bit now... Even Linux is slowly moving away from 32-bit...
There's hardware as recent as like mid-late 2000s that's 32bit. That's still within the realm of stuff that consumers might be using, let alone corporate/industrial applications.
Even if Firefox leaves us behind, the kernel likely won't stop supporting it for years to come. We just removed 486 support. Surely 32bit support will be around a while.
20yr old tech shouldn't be on the Internet.
E: this hard and fast rule gives my laptop another 9 years.
But fr.... Industrial/medical... That shit shouldn't be on the Internet, it should be isolated. Consumer gear..? It lived it's life.
So you just blame Firefox for leaving you behind, while Linux is, in fact, also moving away from 32-bit?
Great for you, that there's almost 20 yr ols hardware using 32-bit... Now, how many do you know, who relies on it? And how expensive is it, to move away from that, to 64-bit?
Stop repeating linux moves away from 32 bit. It won't make it true
Oh, does the truth hurt? I'll keep repeating the truth, until you get it - whether you like it or not!

Now, stop promoting the lie, that what I said isn't true. You lacking knowledge about it, doesn't make it untrue!
Linux is not linux distros.
Linux is the kernel.
The Linux kernel is not dropping 32 bit support.
what in the ai-hell is this article? debian can still run 32-bit applications no problem and equating "i386" to "32-bit support" is just wrong.
Some distros do call their 32bit version i386.
Debian did drop 32 bit support. (although some 32 bit packages will exist)
i586 and i686 are still available and 32-bit.
https://www.debian.org/releases/trixie/
"The legacy 32-bit PC (i386) architecture is supported only as a co-architecture for running 32-bit software on amd64"
You can't just install 32bit debian anymore.
Granted, bookworm will be supported for a while still.
Yeah man, lets just abandon shit that works perfectly fine, let it become e-waste because we can just buy the latest and greatest thing.
Do people think anymore or do they just let the tech companies do that for them?
They don't need to buy the latest. Could literally buy a used computer from the early 10s instead with a 64-bit cpu.
That isn't the point.
If someone has a 32 bit computer that is doing everything they need to do, and that hardware is now being rendered unusable...its e-waste.
And I get it, software has to end support at some point for certain hardware, it doesn't make it suck any less that it is happening.
So, if someone disagree with you on this, then they must be the enemy, sucking up to big tech? That's a narrow minded theory you have there!
Do you pay for Linux? Do you support them financially or do you help make them? If not, then you should consider doing it, and then you can work on the 32-bit versions. Otherwise, be thankful that they keep making it for free, for you!
This started with me saying I didn't like that people were cheering this on and you decided to get triggered about it.
I said you were sucking up to big tech because...pfft you're sucking up to big tech!
This is good. I know distros are antsy to drop it, but it's the legacy apps that need to come around too. I think steam is one of the worst offenders
My suspicion is that Steam intentionally does this to ensure you're compatible with all their old 32-bit games.
Hopefully this forces their hand
Good choice. Like stopping to make VHS while the CD is around.
With linux ditching 32bit, it was enviable things like this are to follow
Where is this coming from?
Linux isn't ditching it. A few distros stopped supporting it.
Linux kernel dropped i368, i468 and a few i568 architectures, and i redid some investigations. I was wrong sorry. I thought pendium d was a cpu line after the pentium 4 line, and that was the turning point, but its the original pentium line that gets ditched. My mistake ^^
Pentium D was a dual "core" Pentium 4 circa 2006ish
Reworded my sentence, sorry
Most serious distros are stopping their support for 32-bit... Not a few - the most prominent, which most of the others are build from.

Distros are not linux.
Linux is the kernel.
