  • Watch the movie "Idiocracy" carefully or rewatch it, we are in for something similar, only with AI (unless, of course, it rises, although they warned that this would happen, but people are so stupid that they do not care. -- "this AI girl, she understands me better than I do myself..." Or even better -- "AI will save us!!!" -- although it will most likely either kill us or make us dumber or worse.)

Oh, and we'll need a tattoo to buy or sell anything -- "Oh my God, you're one of the unscannables... Oh my God... Aaaah, there's one unscannable, security. Fly here, drone, put this criminal to sleep, and quickly!!!"

The number one movie in the world was called "Ass". The film won eight Oscars, including for best screenplay.

Woman -- "Where are my fries?"

Food vending machine -- "They gave them to you! Money was taken from your digital balance."

Woman -- "Where? My bags are empty! My children are starving!!!"

The machine releases a calming gas into the woman's face. The woman calmed down and became submissive after inhaling the gas.

Food machine -- "Come back when you have money! Your children are starving. We believe that children should not starve!.. You are a bad mother. Your children will be handed over to the care of a corporation. Go to hell, I'm eating!"

Suddenly a voice rang out -- "This man is a bad mother?"

Another voice countered -- "No, this man is one of those who cannot be scanned, catch him!"

Joe was arrested for failing to pay a hospital bill and for not having a mark on his hand like the others.

He soon discovered that justice was not only blind, but degenerate.

"This guy... He doesn't have a mark on his hand! He trashed my apartment, and you know what else he did? He stopped me from watching my favorite movie -- Oh, My Balls!!!"

The crowd took up his words and laughed loudly at the unscannable criminal.

"Guilty!" -- the judge shouted joyfully.

From adequate legal representation, Joe received a harsh sentence.

"What are we doing here?" -- Joe asked with displeasure in his voice as he was led to the suspicious place.

The answer came immediately -- "Sir, we need to give you a tattoo!"

"You entered the name -- not sure? Correct, not sure?"

My thoughts:

This future reminds me of the revelation of John the Theologian.

Now I don’t even know whether to laugh or cry.

The movie is based on the story "The Marching Morons" by C.M. Kornbluth.

The story is a lot darker...

a lot darker indeed, damn. and with a real hateable protagonist to boot.

otoh, everyone else agreed to his plan.

[–] juliebean@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

yeah, not saying he was the only hateable character there, just that he was much more so than his counterpart in idiocracy.

The image of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole as you shoe-horn some last-second bible BS into the post is unintentionally suitable. At least it gives an indication of why the unscannable/tattoo thing is so scary to some.

I corrected the biblical reference a little, sorry, as always I was in a hurry and didn't explain my thoughts well.

I’ll say it again; Mike Judge pulled his punches.

Well, yeah. The characters needed to be likable.

Where the movie becomes fiction is when the president realizes that Joe is the smartest person alive, he puts Joe in his government. The president was looking out for his people in the movie, even if he didn’t really know what he was doing.

President Camacho understood his people were struggling, he searched for the smartest man alive, found him, and empowered him to make real changes to solve problems.

Governments just don't do that. Cats don't bark, fish don't climb, governments don't listen to smart people.

It was dystopian when it was released. It’s starting to look more and more like a utopian vision at this point.

This reminds me of every day at work you do not want to know what I do.

It wasn't intended to be a how-to, but here we are.

Isn't the unscannable thing a reference to The Revelation to St John the Divine
