To be fair, it's probably hard for a black Vulcan to accept and forget the many blatantly racist things that the guy was known for saying about black people.

with the widespread reactionary normalization of kirk from the center/center-left i’d be surprised if shatner knows anything about him at all.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 85 points 2 weeks ago

Even bigger Tim Russ fan now.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 72 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Based Tim Russ.

WTF is Shatner and Beltran even doing? Charlie Kirk and people like him call for the harm and death of people that Star Trek once stood to accept and validate. Fuck them both!

[–] cm0002@piefed.world 29 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Well Shatners is actually rather inline with federation ideals IMO, condemnation of assassination and political violence regardless of their views

Now Beltrans otoh, dripping with right-wing adoration. But he never really liked his ST legacy or ST in general I don't think so doubly fuck him!

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

condemning violence is fine, but you don’t have to simultaneously normalize deplorable views.

Shatner has no problem saying we can’t discuss flat earth but for some reason draws the line at christian nationalism and white supremecism. there was a time that was a non starter as well, and the collective milquetoast center left is just enabling that overton window shift even more.

we are literally living through the tolerance paradox and it’s enfuriating.

Beltran has sucked for ages

[–] captainjhoira@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah fuck that guy. I used to like Chakotay too. Oh well.

[–] SatyrSack@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

I misread that as "Beltran has sucked eggs"

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, his comment is about not making people who disagree with you "targets." Sure, I largely agree with that. However, when their entire raison d'Γͺtre was making other people targets then that's the line where you don't get to be the victim anymore.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 63 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

That's not mocking his death. It's just saying he doesn't matter. Which is true. He's a fucking podcaster. No one should care about him as much as these jerkoffs are regardless of his politics .

[–] ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Can't wait for Hassan to get shot and watch the democrats fly his casket on air force 2 with an honor guard OH WAIT BUT they wouldn't because that's fucking insane?? Obviously?!

But now that this is the standard, I sure hope Boxxy gets a 21 gun salute and a month of federally mandated mourning when she goes

[–] starlinguk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Apparently saying 'who cares' is celebrating his death.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Look, a handful of gun deaths are the price we pay for 2A. Don't get all empathetic.

[–] CH3DD4R_G0BL1N@sh.itjust.works 41 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Tim was combing the desert of his mind looking for fucks to give and it appears he ain’t found shit

[–] Dremor@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The Robert Beltran comments would be hilarious if they weren't so, what's the word? Oh yeah. Whitewashing.

[–] maniacalmanicmania@aussie.zone 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It still blows my mind that the Native American consultant on Voyager was a fake. Beltran should have seen through the guy but didn't afaik. Fuck Beltran.

[–] SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one 23 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

He's Mexican, and the consultant was already known to be a fake at the time. So he probably didn't care at all.

Blame Rick Berman. The man is a misogynistic power-thugging shitbag already.

I know Beltran is Mexican. I did not know the consultant was already known to be a fake at the time. What. The. Fuck.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I'm not up on my Voyager backstage knowledge at all, but by chance was that consultant John Two-Hawks?

Edit: nope, different fraud.

Honestly, how is this mocking? At absolutely worst its dismissive or disrespectful, but that is a bit much.

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The caption was "the only Kirk that matters" :)

[–] n3m37h@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's more of a pain in the neck, really.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

I'm assuming the commenter above knew that. That's what they were saying. It's not mocking. It's just saying "I don't really give a fuck."

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Seems like he was combing the Republican moral desert for Charlie's empathy to use as a guide and at the end of the day, well unfortunately, he ain't found shit.

[–] unconsequential@slrpnk.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

I’d like to think Leonard Nimoy would be proud.

[–] Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.net 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Unfathomably based

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 weeks ago

Better cancel Voyager now, I guess. Can't have this kind of hate speech go unpunished. /s

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I'm going to release a fan edit of Voyager that uses AI to replace Robert Beltran with Mel Brooks from Blazing Saddles. At least that way I'll know the terrible native pastiche is being played by someone who understands racism.

I feel Tim Russ would appreciate that.

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't get it, how is this mocking?

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

Anything they don't like is mocking. Thin skinned weak ass pussies.

[–] Alpha71@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wait. Beltrans a Conservative!?

Has been for years. Notorious Scab too.
