Washington Post says announcement imminent despite guidelines showing drug – known as paracetamol elsewhere - is safe for pregnant women to take

Donald Trump’s administration is on Monday expected to tie pregnant women’s use of the popular medicine Tylenol – known as paracetamol elsewhere in the world – to a risk of autism, contrary to medical guidelines, the Washington Post has reported.

Trump officials are also expected to announce an effort to explore how the drug leucovorin could purportedly and potentially treat autism, according to the Post report published Sunday, which cited four sources with knowledge of the plans who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the announcement had not been made.

Medical guidelines say it is safe for pregnant women to take Tylenol, the over-the-counter pain medication whose active ingredient is known as acetaminophen in the US and paracetamol elsewhere in the world.

Why is this dumbfuck is so obsessed with autism?

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I suspect it's projection, some autistic person probably schooled him at some point and he felt belittled. He's dumb and petty enough, plus it's the right kind of bigotry for the fuhrer to sell snake oil.

because it's something people don't understand but desperately want to 'solve'.

so you can leverage it to manipulate them. most of the anti-autism stuff is less about autism and more about controlling sad people who desperately want answers and feel 'victimized' by autisms existence

Whats fucking insane is, as I understand it this is one of the few pain relief methods that pregnant woman have that's even safe for the baby.

He's selling. So, he tells you that this "Really bad" companies drug can cause it. Then while you are thinking about it. He tells you that he has this new wonderful drug that might "treat it". Snake oil anyone?

Gotta start the undesirables list with something

Anything to avoid the Epstein files

[–] derry@midwest.social 27 points 1 day ago

How about the Epstein files, do they cause autism?

[–] PonderousParrot@lemmy.world 137 points 2 days ago (3 children)

So not even acetaminophen, but specifically Tylenol.

Man that's an easy lawsuit to win if I ever heard one.

Trick is that you're basically guaranteed to lose at the USSC.

or paracetamol.

Want to reduce autism? Reduce pollution. But this is the guy that's dismantling all environmental regulations.

Exposure to fine particulate air pollution (PM2.5) has been linked with significantly increased risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children, particularly if exposure occurs during the third trimester of pregnancy or during early childhood, according to a meta-analysis from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The study was published April 29, 2021, in Environmental Research Letters.

The authors noted that there has been a steep rise in the prevalence of childhood diagnosis of ASD over the past several years, from 6.7 per 1,000 people in 2000 to 16.8 per 1,000 people in 2014. Possible risk factors include those related to family, such as genetics or parental age, or the environment. Previous studies have found an association between exposure to ambient particulate matter (PM) and neurobehavioral dysfunction, but they’ve been inconclusive regarding the link between PM exposure and the development of ASD.

Having Autism is amazing tho. Maybe we should start having pregnant women stand by freeway exits?

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That and stop having kids at 35+.

But that's not socially acceptable to say.

It doesn’t have anything to do with he agent the mother, it’s not Down syndrome.

[–] downhomechunk@midwest.social 4 points 1 day ago

I would have loved to start younger. But we were poor and struggling. 2008 sucked.

Really? Sure is weird then how the famously autistic Temple Grandin was alive & 8 years old when Tylenol came on the market.

Also, millions of other autistic people.

-EDIT-

Also:

https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2817406

Findings In this population-based study, models without sibling controls identified marginally increased risks of autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) associated with acetaminophen use during pregnancy. However, analyses of matched full sibling pairs found no evidence of increased risk of autism (hazard ratio, 0.98), ADHD (hazard ratio, 0.98), or intellectual disability (hazard ratio, 1.01) associated with acetaminophen use.

So they can re-authorize all the vaccines now, right?

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago

"No, not like that!"

[–] unrealizedrealities@kbin.melroy.org 47 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's great! Where are the Epstein files?

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 8 points 2 days ago

still using charlie kirk as a smokescreen in the media.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What is the point of this ?

The Trump admin was never going to release anything incriminating.

The Epstein files are the distraction from all the other fuckery going on.

[–] unrealizedrealities@kbin.melroy.org 3 points 2 days ago (3 children)

ouroborous, we have to start somewhere and defeating any starting point, well...

I would absolutely love to see all the stock put plays that happened behind doors by insiders on Friday. This seems like a corrupted stock move more than anything. Announced on a weekend no less.

These guys are going to get away with every single crime they commit until they die. Makes me feel crazy.

I understand they are also going to release information that links severe back related injuries to mothers, to one or more of their children stepping on a crack.

[–] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

ASD has a heritability of around 80-90 percent (variance explained by genetics). That's about the same as human height. There are important environmental factors, but this is probably bullshit considering the source. You can tell when they don't mention the effect size (the increased probability of developing the disorder) which is probably very low.

Autism is a severe neurodevelopmental disorder and there are no easy answers. Trump and RFK Jr are liars and morons, and this preys on desperate parents trying to help their kids.

Can we please tie MAGA to NPD?

[–] Inucune@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I guess he doesn't like the brand with "stop. Think." As their slogan

Cruelty is the point. Can't have women getting pain relief.

Why does everything cause autism now 💹

[–] JeremyHuntQW12@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Because its being massively over-diagnosed.

No - film directors and stand up comedians do not have autism.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 8 points 2 days ago

its wastebasket disease with no definitive specific cause, so Psuedoscience can attribute anything can cause it.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 2 points 2 days ago

For the same reason everything they don't like is woke

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

get your Tylenol now before they force a recall.
