Attorney General Rayfield and Governor Kotek say Oregon has no rebellion or unrest to justify President Trump's federal order deploying 200 National Guard troops.

Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield announced Sunday that the state has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration alleging that President Donald Trump unlawfully ordered the deployment of 200 Oregon National Guard members for federal law enforcement duties.

The lawsuit, which was filed jointly by the State of Oregon and the City of Portland in U.S. District Court, challenges the legal basis of the federal order. It names President Trump, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, and their respective departments as defendants.

In a statement, Rayfield said the deployment is not based on any legitimate threat but is instead “about the President flexing political muscle under the guise of law and order.”

FTFY

In a statement, Rayfield said the deployment is not based on any legitimate threat but is instead “about the President deflecting from the Epstein files scandal.”

It's funny the supreme court is to busy cleaning Trumps orange stains from their mouth with the constitution to care or do anything about it.

Sorry for being to graphic.

They were raised for this, this is the reason for being of these federalist society hack traitors. They will find time.

Is his cum orange, or does he put orange makeup on his dick?

Remember the orange push-pops?

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 18 hours ago

What does filing a lawsuit even do?

Cascadia, now.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 49 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Hahahahaha. ‘Unlawful’. I can’t breathe.

So, where do we accept this is full-blown fascist newspeak? Spoiler: like 8 years ago, before it was too late. And now it’s too late. Thanks to everyone who told me I was a hyperbolic alarmist. Enjoy your police state, idiots (and I’m including the protest and non-voters here), you did this.

Doomerism is the last stage before the liberal inside of you dies. When you let that die; come meet the rest of us and touch some grass. We're the ones that have been doing more than vote shaming for those 8 years.

We could really use more numbers. We're friendly and welcoming to anyone that's not a fascist. We bring water, first aid, and vegan protein bars. We just need more of you to kill the doomer inside of you.

You can even hold onto that "vote shaming" if it matters to you. But it's kind of useless to "be right about it" at this point. You either hold onto your doomerism and do nothing. Or maybe join the only people doing something to resist. Because even if you think we're "cringe" we are all you've got now.

Oh, and bring a mask.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca -4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

What makes you think there was a liberal inside me?

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 11 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

I think I explained it but I'm in a good mood so I'll rant more if you want it. I assumed that for the "vote shaming". That's something that only liberals do.

But my comment was meant to be more of a general message than directed at you personally. So, I'm not really saying "you" personally. I don't know you. But I can use your comment to make a point.

You can be as far left as a maoist third-worldist in your head. But if you're allowing your doomerism to keep you from going outside and organizing. Well, materially, you're not doing anything more than a liberal that watches fascist take power and do nothing but blame <1% of the voting population.

Doomerism will keep liberals there. Liberals have this idea that the system works and just needs to "be fixed". That's why "doomerism" is the last defense that one's liberalism has in keeping them inactive. When faced with the system falling into fascism when THEY "did everything right" the liberal is met with a decision. The liberal has to either decide that that system is the problem in the first place (an hence stop being a liberal) OR revert to doomerism. To blame leftists, Trump voters, protest voters, or whatever they can to avoid criticizing the system.

I get the "people don't care" or " people are too stupid" from my liberal friends. They say "you had like 75 people at that protest. Let me know when it's actually doing something and I'll join".

Well, THEY are the people that need to be joining. They are all waiting for the movement without doing any of the work.

It's a comfort that doing nothing is the most reasonable action. When (to me) it clearly is not.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Not only liberals vote shame. It won’t be long before we get the chance to try to relegate the fascist to the back seat for a while again, and some of us have kids.

Some of us can afford to have different strategies throughout the cycle, and right now I’d like people to understand the landscape that’s being created .

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 7 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

I have a kid. I go out and protest BECAUSE I have a kid. My mixed race kid that's a daughter of a green card holder is in the crosshairs of this administration.

There is no more pushing fascist to the backseat mate. They have power. They don't give that up. Read a history book. You're delusional if you think 2028 will bring "normalcy" again. Please wake up.

They are not only targeting leftists that go out in the streets. We'll be the first to be round up. For sure. But if you have any political opinion that's counter to this administration. Well, you're in their crosshairs too. But there might not be anyone left to speak up for you once you're their only target left. Keep that it mind comrade. You can't wait until their at your door.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 2 points 6 hours ago

This person will never move forward because they're rooted in the past and fertilizing it with anger, bitterness, and hatred. I feel sorry for their kid.

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Right?I wish they’d start saying impeachable too

Not unhangable.

[–] aarch0x40@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (5 children)

This is what California should have done but Gavin loves the theater all too much.

[–] ooterness@lemmy.world 114 points 1 day ago (2 children)

California did file a lawsuit, and won, though the ruling came too late to do much good.

Here's an NPR article and Newsom's press release on the outcome.

[–] akilou@sh.itjust.works 51 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well the good it did was set precedent for Oregon's case and any thereafter.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 23 hours ago

Clarence Thomas said today that any precedent can be ignored. He was specifically talking about his Supreme Court but I think his words resonate beyond that.

[–] aarch0x40@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

I stand corrected

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 35 points 1 day ago

California did sue

Gavin absolute does love the drama and being in the news too, though

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Does this not count?

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Edited: the commenter I was responding to was wrong, and I didn’t fact-check, either.

~~I agree, but~~ I can also see it from the “why bother” angle. If a federal lawsuit can get appealed all the way to the Supreme Court, then Trump will almost certainly win anyway. Theater is much cheaper and quicker.

~~Again, though, you’re right.~~

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

No, they are not. There was a lawsuit. They just made a post without actually doing any work to validate their claims in hopes nobody else would either. It was a lazy shitpost.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 1 points 23 hours ago

Thank you for the clarification
