Misconception of how authoritarian governments work. Restaurants, parks, bars, etc all keep existing and working as normal. You have shows and music and books still. You even have internet and electronic devices. The difference is that you have to toe the line in what you say. The art is all controlled by the gorvernment and the internet is firewalled to be local only. If you are a very conformist person you might not even notice at all that you live in an authoritarian government. The average guy who wakes up, goes to work, gets home watches tv and during the weekend watches sports, maybe goes out with the family; the kind that never quite knows what’s going on in the economy or politics, he only knows things are expensive or cheap and that’s the extent of his capacity for political judgement; would downright be ok with the authoritarian government because he doesn’t realize that it is, and he doesn’t feel a difference whether it is or not.

Apathy is the real enemy of democracy.

Oh yea I'm not a conformist, probably why the way I am.

I always go poking around in places mainsteam media doesn't expect me to. Digging around Tor and "Dark Web", researching about custom operating systems that nobody actually use. Etc...

As a kid, when I looked at media, and... you know how media always portrays men as "strong" and women as if they always need to be saved by the hero, who is always a man... like you know what I'm talking about? The gender stereotypes. When I was a kid, I was just like: but why can't a woman save the man from the villains like I always have internal thoughts that conflicted with society. I always have questions about everything, curiosity forces me to try and gather more information than what is fed by the system.

And I especially just hate loud music, parties, festivals, or otherwise holiday celebrations, too much stress.

I wonder, do philosophers typically have friends, or are they just loners?

Edit: Also, you kinda described my parents. Total Apathy. They say: "trump was fine first term, there's nothing to worry about" lmfao. And for context, we are non-white immigrants and our former country was an authoritarian one, but they didn't care about that either.

Our greatest strength as a species is likely our ability to adapt to our enviroments. The abnormal becomes normal when given enough time.

Beside that, even when under dire circumstances, many people can just kind of find it in themselves to keep laughing and keep hoping. You find joy where you can when you have to and, as long as they believe there is a life ahead of them, many people will continue to seek that joy, however miniscule. We are highly resilient in many ways. Sometimes for the better. Sometimes not.

Im sure half the world is depressed. Maybe more than half. Some fight, others do what they're able. And some people are completely oblivious or in-support. We make do. You only got one life as it is. i think a lot of people make the best of it in a way that works for them.

Despite significant evidence to the contrary, the average human is actually very intelligent. We are not able to control all aspects of our life.

A good way to look at life is like a river, we are all in this river: Some in Kayaks, others in Canoes, some in Rafts, too many in Yachts and Cruise Ships. Every battleship is one too many. The water will always keep flowing and take us in a certain direction. Sometimes there is a path to choose; rapids, falls, almost still waters. We can go against the stream for a bit, will always land up in the same spot anyway.

So we adapt. We decide when to lead and when to follow, based on our capability. When unable to process reality and keep living at the same time, we tell ourselves stories to keep afloat. That is where religion comes in.

Unfortunately there are a lot of bad captains and admirals on the waters still. In due time, we will replace them all with proper characters. We are not there yet.

Yet, we stay afloat, lose some boats before their life had come to a natural end, but the fleet will keep going until ... time will tell.

Up to us all to support and uplift those depressed, so that they may one day become a better version of themselves again, perhaps even leaders.

Likely. Most don't have much birth control access. When your young you don't really get it and by the time you do you have kids or if not you worry about your parents or other relatives.
